Best 70 hours of my life this year.

It has everything I ever wanted from DL2: a great setting, an amazing story, catchy and likable characters, a variety of weapons and customization, looting, driving through Castor Woods, boss fights, music and sound design (!!), tons of easter eggs, etc.

I could go on and on about how great this game is, but I’d like to point out three things that stand out among everything that’s good here:

First, nights are scary af. Again. Even when you’re fully leveled. And that’s a good thing.
Second, the game warned me on launch that my potato laptop would fry with its 4GB GeForce 3050. That’s BS. It actually runs pretty well even on my setup.
And last, but definitely not least — Kyle Crane. God, am I glad to be Kyle Crane again, and not that whiny Aiden with his “save ma sistaaah!” quest. Kyle Crane is one of the best main characters in a video game ever, and he’s back. And he’s angry. VERY angry. Long live Kyle!

Now, of course, it’s not perfect. It has some flaws, one of which is that it’s SO painfully short that even I finished it within 50 hours (while picking through every scrap pile, doing dumb stuff, and just generally being slow). But it has a lot of potential. Story spoilers ahead:
and they did my boy Spike dirty! That’s outrageous!

So if you’re a fan of Dying Light 1 and were disappointed in DL2 (like me), definitely pick up The Beast. Techland’s redemption arc with this game is so satisfying. I have high hopes we’re in for a good ride.
