The atmosphere and setting feels cool but ultimately the gameplay does not justify its price. I'm confident that the players praising the game like it's the ultimate survival RPG are simply captivated by the Dune universe and style, which is great. They think it's the best because of that feeling. But mechanics-wise, the crafting and combat is mediocre.

For the most part, it's killing and looting copy-paste human mobs which are a little bullet-spongy. The missions, building and crafting do not feel interesting enough to render a sense of wonder and satisfaction like other survival or crafting games do. Think Valheim, Kenshi. That level of interaction even in simple tasks, that grand sense of adventure and achievement, I did not feel in Dune: Awakening. I'd say the experience is comparable to Icarus where it has a pretty concept but shallow implementation. For the steep price tag, it's not enough to do fetch quests, mining and grinding from point A to point B. Players should be able to feel like they can design efficient systems and ingenious builds, whether it's their character abilities or fabrication process, have a reason to plan their base architecture that they can marvel about, etc. It lacks these sort of experiences, and does poorly in both survival and RPG aspects when compared to others in the market.

Aside from the gameplay, there's the fact that this isn't an MMO game, nor does it need to do any matchmaking, it's a 40-player instanced server not on a free-to-play model, yet players cannot actually host their own servers (they have to rent), and they can't play offline. This insulting anti-consumer practice needs to be called out without reservation.

The gameplay mechanics feel a little dated and less streamlined, but nonetheless it's great fun to explore. The music, animation and voice acting is superb, it really brings the mystery to life. I'm not too impressed with the writing for this story though I think it's because this game was designed to include very young audiences so it's more simplistic and easy to follow compared to Tangle Tower. Even really basic mechanics have explanations. The clues are laid out and presented very well, which is something that is really difficult to get right but they've nailed this process of discovery. I think whoever designed the world and characters of Detective Grimoire is brilliant. One thing that really adds to the charm is the animations, they are wonderful, please do more of that even if they are short. Overall, Secret of the Swamp is a great game that is well worth the experience.

Beautiful art with very good puzzle and deduction mechanics. For the detective parts, you have to find and click on anything that may interest you on screen and it gets added to a list of clues. The game rewards you for being thorough. Even if they are not clues, you get interesting dialogue and remarks that are well-written. When the clues don't match what your suspects say, or when it's clear that there is a link to something more, you will be able to confront them which tests your knowledge: you have to form the correct sentence which points out a problem. The problem is usually minor, it's not some "take that" moment, but it adds up and comes together to form a picture of the whole situation.

Coming hand-in-hand are some challenging puzzles that feel solid, polished, and easy to operate. Most puzzles have the solutions in and of itself, but they are not really handed to you. It always involves some observation, deduction or inference; you have to understand it first. Puzzles that have their solutions elsewhere are generally easier to solve, which strikes a good balance. You are normally met with a puzzle when dealing with something like a locked box or a room which you need to get into for more clues.

The characters are very well designed with impeccable voice acting. The music, amazingly immersive. The world felt interesting, colorful, and alive. Unfortunately, the mystery starts to show some flaws further into the game. There are quite a number of unanswered questions, motivations that seem unnatural and an ending that isn't very satisfying. A few of the prompts and dialogue choices in the second half of the game feel unintuitive. With that said, I think how the clues are presented is very smart with good attention to detail. It is a fascinating experience and there are brilliant moments in the game with lots of opportunities for theorycrafting. You'll be able to relate things to one another very often. Tangle Tower especially rewards keen observation. All in all, it's a charming game that provides a wonderful experience with great gameplay, definitely recommended.

The game's aesthetics and concepts are pretty cool, but I expected more on the writing and narrative. Some puzzles feel repetitive because they are of a similar concept of one another: i.e. punch in some codes, flip some switches. It lacks substance in its communication-based puzzles. While it is creative with its puzzle components, it unfortunately falls short on gameplay.

Terrible writing that fails to capture any desperation or urgency of the situation at hand, lots of wasted potential with the historical setting. Animations were also done very lazily. Moreover, I discovered that I am not a furry. Worst day of my life.

a very tryhard game with uninteresting combat that feels more like work than a game. not gonna bother elaborating since an overwhelming majority of people seem to enjoy it. some people even say terraria sucks and this is better, which is retarded beyond any argument i can possibly make. so as long as the game has a charming art style and unforgiving difficulty, it'll probably have a cult following because people just want to suffer, then overcome that suffering, and boom masterpiece

At first, Deceit seems like a casual, unique and creative game. The FPS combat and the voting mechanics sounds like a brilliant mashup in concept. I thought it was quite promising the first time I tried it. However, after actually playing it, it is a rather shallow game with weak gunplay that feels like it wants to be some tryhard competitive game even in Casual mode. I don't like that having perks basically means you have an advantage over new players; I refrained from leveling up. Being able to track people/blood, voice chat and vote at any time takes away the intrigue for me and it didn't feel good even if I managed to deduce who the Terror is. For the social aspect, you either believe someone, or don't, then vote, and that's it - win or loss is kind of determined. Maybe this is enough for most people, but that is very shallow to me. There's nothing to argue about unlike in Secret Hitler or Battlestar Galactica, no layers in the conversation. The game doesn't withhold enough information to encourage people to ask questions, everything is already there for the player to track, observe and deduce.

Since its mechanics are so casual, Deceit should for example, remove voice chat and make players communicate using gestures and reports, untie voting from the gunplay - only introduce it during a specific phase where it basically becomes a free-for-all Mexican standoff without the need for majority vote, or as a last stand for the voted-off to defend themselves, or even design it more as an arena shooter. Make it a light-hearted game that has some random chance and laughs to be had so it's not all about deduction and "skill". I cringe every time someone mentions "skill" in games like this. Deceit is quite polished and has some creative concepts, so it is a shame that its execution is rather poor.
