by adaopting redsec as it's competitive format a lot of cheaters are diverted away from the real game-types, some of which are saturated with consol players. to play an FPS without so many cheaters this way is extremely refreshing.

pro tip: the spec ops tree unlocks sneaky footsteps and UAV, ♥♥♥♥♥ OP

at no point in this game have i felt that i was in an appropriate area for my level. progression is very scrambled and disorienting, it goes from sleeping through creep encounters to getting 1-hit by invisible bosses that can blink, all in the same zone / instance. basic mechanics like saving the game or free-roam before combat are too easy to exploit making every difficulty mode redundant.

it scratched an RPG itch for a bit but at this point i regret buying it..the price is far too steep. it has potential but needs a decade(?) of polishing

the story is also whack, decide on rescuing the teiflings and kill all the druids in the first town? Harstem just forgives you for it, NBD. wtf?
lots of woke nonsense, devil worship, etc

Quake Champions is a great game. When I first saw that it's the original Rapha sitting #1 on its leaderboard the hairs on the back of my neck stood up (atm 890 wins 26 losses...). Somehow this game has gone under the radar which could partly explain the absence of cheaters in its playerbase. One can frustratingly find themselves playing in another continent due to this low playerbase,, but that can go unnoticed because of good networking and because the game is visually stunning!

Also Quake is what I would argue is the epitome of what academic research calls a "spatial awareness" game, which have been assosciated with all kinds of cognitive development.

And, like dribbling a soccer ball or being able to hit/catch, Quake is one of those essential sporting disciplines which you or anyone is hopefully capable of partaking in.

personally I do not recommend this game

can't drop weapon ? wtf? how hard would it be to limit the number of sharable weapons from a weapons cache to stop someone from multiplying the number of RPGs on a team for example - instead the game restricts everyone from being able to drop their originally selected primary weapon which impacts my overall movement speed no matter what? seems unnecessarily complicated and contrary to the immersion the game can offer otherwise.

Also, tried to ask the devs about whether this is intentional or was overlooked for the original Insurgency, they replied saying their focus is now on development of their new game which is understandable but to see the same limitation persist into Insurgency: Sandstorm is kind of frustrating

AMAZING GAME ruined by an invisible "combat area" that disarms you if you step into it. It wraps around areas of focus in a bubble leaving defenders permanently surrounded/outflanked in 9/10 maps which reduces this otherwise great game into an ant farm.
