It's a shame the game is so damn fast paced and fluid. I find myself murdering everything on site and sprinting through the levels before realizing that if you slow down and pay attention the amount of detail they have managed to pack into the Build Engine is truly incredible! (Good secrets too!)

Tight controls, amazing gun play, absurdly detailed level design and a new....crush? I <3 Shelly.

What a glorious day for us old guy gamers! An actual FPS worth playing has finally emerged from the violent sea of garbage that is the gaming industry!

Out of all the idle clicker genre, Cell To Singularity - Evolution Never Ends stands out above the rest.

PROS:
  • Work your way from Amino Acids to A.I. You'll learn the very basics of how life on our earth came to be. Think of it as a BIO-101 course that you'll pass with a 71%.
  • The income system is pretty damn clever, with clicks generating entropy (which is a measure of a system's thermal energy per unit temperature that is unavailable for doing useful work; i.e. the measure of molecular disorder, or randomness of a given system). Every life you buy generates background Entropy. Entropy is only the first currency you utilize, however, as First Idea unlocks the ability to create ideas. For which, originally, you will tap a gigantic brain to think your way into the Stone Age. The various ages will generate you passive ideas. Further on, there is another currency you'll start to generate known as metabits (mathematical artifacts that make up the metaware of your RealityEngine).
  • UI is clean and scales well to various resolutions. Provides a clear 'historical' timeline of your chosen and currently available evolutionary steps.
  • The research surrounding your unlocked Life is sensible and exciting. For example, unlock Tetrapod and you'll see Legs as a research option (100% efficiency boost) which leads further into Quadrapedalism (100% efficiency boost applied to our Legs bonus) and off to the other side of the tree, develop ears. Or get to the Emergent Age and research Crypto Currency and 3D Printing.

CONS:
  • No Steam related achievements is a bummer.
  • The game's pacing is definitely built around you either watching ads (mobile) or buying cubes on PC, with certain progression points becoming an absolute slog without doing such.

WORTH TALKING ABOUT:
# I hit Singularity in about 16 hours.
# Some of pacing can be rather 'off' depending on how you spend your currency(ies). For example, my society had an understanding of video games prior to mud bricks. I've somehow landed Rovers on Mars with only 13 humans total.
# Cell to Singularity's ascension/prestige idea is what really sets the game apart from other idle clickers in my opinion. You evolve to the point of Singularity and then you can choose to create a RealityEngine (a simulation of the current simulation that is the game) as the A.I. you've just spent all game building up to. For example, on your second play through, (after your first 'reset' so to speak), you are playing Cell To Singularity - Evolution Never Ends (with core game settings/values modified with your metaware upgrades that were applied via the RealityEngine) inside of Cell To Singularity - Evolution Never Ends. Multiverse? Simulation Theory? Yes.

A good simulation, be it a religious myth or scientific theory, gives us a sense of mastery over experience. To represent something symbolically, as we do when we speak or write, is somehow to capture it, thus making it one's own. But with this appropriation comes the realization that we have denied the immediacy of reality and that in creating a substitute we have but spun another thread in the web of our grand illusion. - Heinz Pagels

It's a mini-golf sim; grab friends and talk mad trash on them all. Be careful though, as missing 30+ shots can cause you to stroke out (and I don't just mean in-game).
Game is definitely an angry face/10.

I have 100's of hours into this game because it is STUPID fun. I absolutely love the mechanics and skill level required. Rocket League also has a killer sound track. And for this, I really, really want to recommend it!

HOWEVER, I can't recommend this game due to the absurd level of censorship whose grasp has been increasingly tightened over the last year or so. I can't have my name (which I have had for years prior on Steam, [rocket league included]) Assimil8. It's of just recently (sometime this week) now displayed as: ********. BUT the name(s) drippygashhole, mangravy69, and rugmuncher are allowed~! Want to get chat banned for weeks at a time; say "♥♥♥♥, I'm sorry", when you make a bad play.

Psyonix your censorship is absolute sh1t. To the point where it's arbitrary, inconsistent and just plain overkill. What's next? Are you going to ban the words poo-poo? The ability to speak freely is being stripped away from people on a level that is borderline tyrannical.

THIS IS THE INTERNET, grow a pair, or get off of it. (I know that statement is tainted with hypocrisy as I sit here and complain myself but....)

All salt aside, Psyonix couldn't you simply give people an, idk, MENU OPTION for censorship. Then the rest of us, who aren't either 10 years old or an old christian grandma , could still participate in smack talking OR at the VERY LEAST exercise our freedom of speech.

I don't want to be that guy who draws massively unwarranted parallels between platforms and people who aren't related to Rocket League, but my salt comes from this:
Regardless of how you feel about Alex Jones...he is gone; silenced.
Regardless of how you feel about Canada...thier government passed Bill C-16, which means that you can legally be prosecuted for not using the correct 'neo-pronoun' when talking to a transgender individual.
Regardless of how you feel about nazis, antifa, black lives matter, etc... Discord began banning servers it deemed 'noxious'.

Simply put: WTF is happening to having a voice?? Even if your voice is dumb as all hell, you shouldn't be silenced.

This is one of the few titles that legitimately should NOT be allowed to exist on the Steam marketplace. I saw that the reviews were mixed and wanted to work towards ensuring that wasn't the case. GOO is a cauldron of hot anuz being stirred around by shameless troglodytes who have zero respect for game development, freedom of speech, or you.

January 3rd of this year (2018), when the game was still asking you to pay $25 for it, developement was said to be over and done with. Now, the game is a $1....AGAIN (this is a vicious cycle that has gone on for years). And yes, supposedly, development is back up and running...AGAIN. If the aforementioned is true, give it a couple months and this title will proudly ask you for 20+ dollars again, then die, then come back for pennies a sale, then bump the price, then die, etc.

My prior reviews have, of course, been deleted! Let's see if this one sticks around for any amount of time.

Really was a great idea, but that is just it, an idea. That's all this 'husk' of a title is. A prime example of biting off more than you can chew (from a dev standpoint). Poor execution and the fact that it is abandoned means, 'STAY AWAY'.

+Pros:
  • Climbing Mechanic: Seriously, now that I've experienced this in Conan Exiles, I can't help but ask why other games haven't implemented this. It's truly revolutionary. I was getting chased by a bear, off of a cliff, and I simply lept off the edge into the abyss down below, my toon screaming as I rushed towards the earth. However, last minute, pressing 'space' and facing the cliff, my character digs her hands and feet in, grinding the free fall to a smoking halt. I was getting chased by a jaguar out by The Mire of Eternal Dreams, no problems here! I just climbed a tree like a little b1tch and camped there until kitty lost interest.
  • Being able to reset your character stats/attributes/feats easily. I MEAN EASILY. I used a cauldron and concocted a Yellow Lotus Potion, which made my toon trip balls. After the trip, I had all my points available to me for reassignment.
  • The Dedicated Server Launcher Application. Makes doing your own thing in Conan hyper easy. No more editing various .ini files to append mods or tweak loot-tables or values. You can easily do it all in one place.
  • The world is beautiful. The entire map is full of various biomes, which contain a decent amount of wildlife for you to encounter.
  • Bosses. There exists a handful of badass boss types littered throughout the Conan realm...tread lightly as some of these bosses have over 75k HP.
  • ENSLAVING LESSER FOLK: Do you need some extra hands to follow you into combat? Go find some NPCs at various outposts/camps and knock the sum'b1tches out, hog tie 'em and drag them back to The Wheel of Pain. Feed them nothing but gruel and crack the whip!
  • Being able to upgrade structures that you have already placed!
  • The 150gb dev kit you can utilize through the Epic Games launcher is fantastic. This means to say that the extensize Mods already on the workshop mixed with the ability to quite easily implement your own is a huge selling point.
  • Combat: While it may seem clunky or overbearing, I actually really enjoy the combat mechanics myself. You can alter some of the game data and end up with a ridiculously close 'Dark Souls' experience, timing becomes everything and memorizing your opponents core move set is a must.

=Neutral Points
  • No mounts or taming! (I believe it is in the works, but alas, the world of Conan Exiles is rather vast; hoofing it sometimes doesn't seem to cut the mustard.)
  • The fact that if you are rocking a small party you have to actually modify the boss health as they are quite literally impossible for two guys doing 100dmg each swing @ 70k+HP. I understand that this game wasn't meant to be a 2 player experience, but still.

    I'll come up with some cons as I go along; so far, so good!

TL;DR: Worth full asking price, The Forest, is a crafting, survival (sci-fi/horror) game with a fascinating plot that involves one core objective, (outside of just trying to make it another day), and that is: FIND TIMMY.

I've found that playing on 'Hard Survival' mode, with the trees growing back disabled, structure damage on, and a buddy or two, is the perfect formula for a long-winded peninsula play session that creates many a memorable moment.

Katana, Machete, Axe, Spear, Club, Rock, Flintlock Pistol, Tennis Racket, and Stick...meet your arsenal of heavily modifiable weaponry scattered throughout The Forest. You modify your weaponry with teeth, feathers, glass...

Cannibals (Pale, Painted, Fire, Masked, Skinny, Chief, ), Mutants (Virginia, Cowman, Armsy, Baby), Boar, Crocodiles, Deer, Rabbits, Squirrels, Fish, Turtles, Geese, Birds, Starfish?, Sharks, Lizards, Raccoons, etc. These are some of the local inhabitants you'll bump into after the plane crashes. You can hunt, skin, consume most of these...if not all.

You'll want to focus on your Stats: Fullness, Hydration, Health, Energy, Stamina, Armor, Cold Armor, Stealth.
Along with: Sanity, Weight, Strength, Athleticism and Calories.

Watch out for varying status effects: Bloodied, Temperature, Infection, Sick, Poison, Adrenaline Rush, Grey Zone, Death...

You can craft a vast plethora of objects, items, buildings: Bonfires, Log Cabins, Tree Houses, Zip lines, Gardens, Rabbit Cages, Log Sleds, Cabinets, Armor, Foundations, Platforms, Gazebos, Rock Walls, Fences, Defensive Structures (spiked walls and whatnot), Sap Collectors, Crane, Catapult, Birdhouses, Traps, Decorations, Boats, Effigies, and much more.

I don't want to spoil anything but I'll briefly mention: The Peninsula, The Ancient Ones, Christian Missionaries, Sahara, Yacht Family, Matthew Cross, and missing children.

The Forest is refreshing for multiple reasons, the first being that it is one of the few instances of an Early Access title actually going somewhere and providing its supporters with a solid finished project. The second being that it doesn't spoon feed you any pertinent information. Your plane crashes on the peninsula and you hit the ground running, not really certain of what you should or shouldn't be doing. It takes a good amount of patience and trial/error methodology. The Forest is ridiculously charming in how it goes about coaxing a clever survival strategy out of you as a player.

The Forest is incredibly unique in how it seamlessly transitions from a survival game, to clue chasing mystery puzzler, as you find more and more oddities throughout the land.

Final Words: The Forest is a quintessential survival game experience! If you dabble in survival/crafting games, (even in the slightest), append The Forest to your collection a.s.a.p.

EDIT: Nearly three years and one thousand hours later, I must confess this game is still arguably the best ARPG around. Admittedly, the game should just be called Craft of Exile, but...
* Just go buy the some premium stash tabs already
* Install the damn loot filter
* Play in windowed mode for ez alt+tabbing to 3rd party data/wiki/shops
* Blow through campaign and get to the ACTUAL meat n' taters of what PoE has to offer.
* Learn iLvl, influence(s), implicits, affixes, etc.
$$$ NOW PROFIT $$$

The best free-to-play game available on the Steam marketplace. PoE could easily be worth 40+ dollars.
I'm going to make a bold statement that might bring down some heat: PoE > Diablo 3

I've only begun to scratch the surface of possible builds (with just 1 of the multiple character choices), a marauder that is focused on axes, attack speed, life leech :) I just leap smash into a massive horde and begin twirling with my dual axes, stopping to cleave the 'heavy' baddies.

THE SKILL TREE IS ABSURDITY AT ITS FINEST! Start a character and hit 'p' and let yourself become overwhelmed with all the potential directions you can take.

Anyways, I've just beat Dominus and had to write a short and sweet review that recommends this!
Seriously, stop waiting, start playing.
