I want to preface this review by saying that I've played through this game twice. This second time I played through with my sister in an entirely co-op campaign.
This game is very, very good. It has provided me with long hours of entertainment and fun, and any excuse I have to spend some time with my friends or my sister is welcome in my books. So far, it's the closest experience I've had to replicating an actual tabletop roleplaying game, with some obvious exceptions due to the sheer scope of these games.
The story is quite good. Knowing that your actions have real consequences and having each origin character have their own plotlines that are developed throughout the course of the game strengthens the roleplaying experience and enhances the bonds you form with them. It's nothing too groundbreaking, to be sure, but the twists and turns that it takes are certainly interesting and make for an engaging experience.
Customization in this game is borderline insane. There's an unlimited number of combinations you can make when creating and improving your character from start to finish. Some playstyles are certainly stronger than others (looking at you, Warfare), but still make for many entertaining ways to go through the game.
I do, however, have to talk about the bugs and glitches. This game does not have a shortage on these, ranging from certain questlines being broken or having to reload constantly because one of the characters is still in combat. They are wide and varied, and Larain has done a good job in cracking down on the more prevalent ones that my friend and I found on our first playthrough, yet there are still many more that need addressing.
Another thing I can't sing praises for is the AI, either for enemies or allies. I played through as Fane, staying Veiled throughout the entire campaign and the enemies would always know that I was an undead, which got annoying very quickly. We call this metagaming, and it's frustrating when you can't do anything about it.
I also think that anyone reading this will know what I'm talking about when I mention the infamous Blackpits combat. That encounter. The one that fries computers and lasts hours. We had to restart it so many times because the character we had to save kept running into the fire at 10 HP without either armors and just die repeatedly. No sense of self-preservation whatsoever.
I do think, however, that the worst offender has to be the ending. A spolier-free way of saying this is that there is an unfair advantage given to one of the adversaries, making it near impossible to win.
Here be spoilers. When fighting for Divinity after defeating Braccus and the Kraken, my sister got pitted as she was, with half her HP and none of the buff to help compensate this. It was a no-win scenario for me as a brother. I either made her angy by winning or pissed her off even further by letting her win. Suffice to say, she wasn't very pleased with the ending.
To wrap this rather lengthy review, I want to say that this game is worth it if you're willing to put up with some annoyances throughout the journey. You'll sometimes feel like a badass and you'll sometimes feel useless, based entirely on what your build is.
Give this a try if you like fantasy games and character-driven stories, but do be prepared for a rather bumpy ride.

Quite underwhelming. I spent five of the seven hours on record downloading the thing, and for what? Absolutely nothing. A bare-bones WoW clone with a D&D skin.

I'm writing this review about ten minutes after finishing my first playthrough of the game, and hot damn was it a good one.

I've a soft spot for VN's and it's been a dream of mine to become a bartender, so when I stumbled upon this game, I knew I was in for a treat.

-The writing is clever and on point, but more than that, it's effective. You can actually feel the troubles that ail the characters in their everyday struggle and makes them feel alive.

-The world is alive, and you can really feel integrated to it via denger/u/ and The Augmented Eye in-game online comunities.

-The gameplay, while simplistic, never fails to get boring, which is a must have on this type of game, where the reading can really start to weigh on the player.

-As a Venezuelan myself, I laughed, smiled and teared up at the various references scattered throughout the game.

All in all, a solid experience I would recommend to VN enthusiasts and newcomers alike. All that's left to say is welcome to Valhalla!

One of the best games I've ever had the pleasure to play and indulge. Handle itself quite nicely, almost with a certain proud air to it, what with its stunning pixel art graphics, carefully and lovingly crafted soundtrack and balanced, cahllenging combat that never frustrates the user upon failing. For those looking to nitpick, the story, or obscureness thereof, is meant to be worked out by the player, not be be handed to you in a silver platter like most games do nowadays.

As I mentioned previosly, this is not an easy game. It challenges you to get better after each death, to practice the techniques and new approaches to the same enemies, so when the time finally comes the reward is staisfaction and progression.

Exploration plays a big role in this game, and it is heavily encouraged through small collectables that serve as the game's currency. But even if you don't fancy looking through every nook and cranny for them, you can still explore to admire the beautiful scenery the developers have put together for you to admire.

All in all, the game is amazing. There are no flaws to be had other than the exceptionally rare "falling out of the world" bug. If you're looking for a game both casuals and hardcore players can enjoy, look no further, you0ve found your match with Hyper Light Drifter.
