I've had this game on my wishlist for over a year and I don't remember how or why, but I got an email telling me it was released and 30 hours later I've been having lots of fun. This game proves that the quality and enjoy-ability of a game is not dependent on graphics. Fun roguelike with simple controls and mechanics, but with a good depth of strategy

To the devs: Things I've noticed as a completely new player (never tried the beta that was apparently available before EA) that I'd like to see added/fixed:

Being able to use movement keys quicker. If I have a diagonal path that requires me to spam down/left (for ex), I have to wait a second before each keystroke otherwise it gets caught up as if the game didnt register the key

Toggle the quick mode (ctrl) in settings

Map as a toggle - I've been finding myself using arrow keys, and right shift, which makes me have to awkwardly move my hand to hit the spacebar

TOOLTIPS! On a run I unlocked a set bonus, had no idea what it did, but I had the icon in the bottom left. Still don't know what it does. On the crystal ball, after a couple dozen runs ive started to learn the icons, but a couple of them haven't stuck with me as to what they are.

Better explanation of the items system. I'll have a bunch of items, I know the order matters, but I also don't know exactly how they work or interact. Does the game run through the items list each turn or does it do item 1 > enemy > item 2 > enemy > etc..

Allowing me to start a boss fight with the keyboard, maybe the spacebar. Kind of annoying having to switch to my mouse. Would also like to see this extend to the item selection window, pressing A/D/Left/Right and spacebar to confirm my selection

Reminds me of a shallower Dungeons of Dredmor. Very much a fan of this, maybe one day I'll figure out how to beat the boss

Fantastically made FreeCell. Lots of options to personalize your gameplay. Seems like the only solitare game on Steam, and it's perfect

Game was set to launch in the early morning hours in the US, eagerly stayed up waiting to play. Timer ended and then went up to "releasing soon". Found their discord and tons of people were pissed off. Devs in the discord were trolling people telling them if they quiet down they'll release it soon. After that didn't work, devs and other sympathizers started gaslighting people that the Steam release time was incorrect and we should have went on the discord for the correct time, because "for some reason Valve messed with their release time" -Quoting a dev. Turns out it was set to release at that time, but only for people who had the game already, aka streamers.

Games poorly optimized unless you're a streamer with a $15000 pc, in which case it runs fairly okay. You reading this with a $1500 pc, best of luck, it's unplayable!

People online were hyping this game as a Tarkov killer, but the only thing it killed is its own hype. This is the most unintuitive and clunky game I've ever had the displeasure of playing, and that's coming from a Tarkov player.

Game released to an awful state, but the mobile game developers felt it necessary to release multiple tiers, going up to $100. But that's okay because it's not Tarkov amirite guys?/?? xD let me finance a whole new PC and pay $100 to own BSG who released a completely optional $50 upgrade to a game lightyears ahead in every category possible.

But at least the pve is free amirite?? It doesn't matter if you can't see what you're shooting in the pixelated mess of a game, it's free!

Also their main selling point was a video on how beautiful it was, using two streamers talking to each other in the most scripted and cringy video possible, knowing that 99% of their players will see pixelated blobs just to hit a spiky 50 fps.

Will be refunding and playing Tarkov some more, maybe in 7 years if this isn't completely abandoned I'll revisit it.

AVOID! Don't let the sympathizers who refuse to see what they received at face value trick you into wasting your money. If you do decide to try it, make sure you don't go over the 2 hour refund window!

This was mis-categorized in the roguelike section for some reason, bought it thinking it was a roguelike, and now I'm a huge Gnorp fan

How does this company charge less money than what big gaming corps claim they need to charge to keep afloat, all while offering such a better experience, and not goading you into buying daily released $30 cosmetics at every turn?

Bethesda, Activision Blizzard, EA, go kick rocks

If you are reading this because you're even considering buying, scroll back up and BUY IT.

I own most of the visual packs for VZX Player, and this is by far my favorite.

Framerate is SOLID, animations and graphics are SMOOTH, there are no stutters or hiccups, these visuals run FLAWLESSLY.

The devs seemed to take a slightly different approach this time and incorporated a good amount of background visuals in addition to the primary visual. The camera slowly pans around the scene in every visual which adds so much to the immersion.

You get to fly through space with 'The Visitor' contained in this pack, hands down one of the best they've put out. The 'Lightning Conductor' visual is FANTASTIC, and you can really *feel* the energy of the music. The fingers and electricity beams react to every frequency and note in your song in a way no other visual pack has offered. 'Spectrum Pillars' adds some flashy visuals to the standard visualizer bars with some beautiful scenery, shadows, and reflections, it's AMAZING.

There are a few more basic visualizations in this pack that feel like slightly updated clones of other visuals, but aren't necessarily bad, such as 'Pearls', and 'Quanta Eternal'.

'Through the Gate' could definitely do with a little improvement in visuals. The harp seems to be a big focus of this scene, but is overshadowed by a bunch of floating orbs (that I don't see an option to turn off) that can quickly clutter the screen and hides the harp strings, which in itself I feel doesn't visualize the music as well as others have. Also individual strings are really difficult to make out, so it just feels very crowded and doesn't feel great, just feels really out of place for this pack. Framerate is excellent though, and even with a bunch of flying visuals, there are no fps issues.

'Interstellar Lighthouse' could also do with some improvements. The primary lightsource from the lighthouse doesn't do a good job with visualizing unless the song is super quiet or doesn't have a lot going for it. When things get heated in a song, it seems to just become a flickering line of light, The arcing light coming off it is really pretty to watch, but I don't know if it really reacts to the music, and feels more like a background element.

Devs, if you're reading this: Please expand on whatever formula you chose to go with for this pack, this is hands down the best work you have put out.

Don't be fooled by "professional" reviewers, it's very clear after playing the game their reviews are dishonest, claiming it's "bug free" and a "masterpiece". The game is fun and exciting about 2 hours in, and then after the refund period passes do you see the stale, boring, and repetitive gameplay, somehow it's 10x worse than Fallout 4's gameplay loop - probably because FO4 was seamless.

Planets are boring and barren, you go through 10 different loading screens and menus to get there, go walk around aimlessly until you stumble upon a node to mine, or a little camp to loot your 500th junk item to put on your ship to craft more junk from, and endlessly repeat. I walked around for 10 minutes on Antarctica before finding an icy rock that was a major landmark, which had a mining node you point a laser at and hold LMB for 5 seconds. What a blast. And that's the full extent of what planets are supposed to be. People have been retorting in bad faith with "Bethesda players crying when they can't walk around forever on an empty planet" as a way to discredit valid concerns, but fail to understand they're reinforcing our complaints. Why are there so many planets if they themselves find them so boring and barren? If space is just a "backdrop" like people have been claiming as a way to cope, why is it so integral to the game and how it functions?

Arguably the most exciting part of a space game is the ability to fly. In Starfield, your flying is limited to cutscenes. Your actual piloting is being able to fly around a small isolated section of where you have to fast travel to in a galaxy, where you may encounter a space station to kill and loot for an hour in, or have a 2 minute dogfight, or find space debris to loot more junk. Rinse, repeat. You can't even fly towards a planet, you can't fly from planet to planet, you must fast travel. You can't even fly around a planet, you can't even manually leave a planet, this "game" is all one giant loading screen.

The game runs horribly. On a high end $2000 machine I'm lucky to get 40 fps on low settings.

If you need any more evidence, ask yourself why they charged $30 to play early over a holiday weekend. They knew they hyped this up, had amazing critic reviews in a media blitz. They knew people would be bored over the holiday weekend, they'd pony up the extra money (on top of the bs $70 price tag), they blocked user reviews on Steam, Metacritic isn't allowing user reviews, all so they can try to hide the fact this is a dumpster fire and sell more $100 versions. Also they got rid of the gamepass trials so people would be forced to pay the full price, and not get to experience this garbage for $1 before abandoning it.

Saw a lot of people saying "do this main story quest BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING and the game will BE SO MUCH BETTER" Hint: It's not better. It's not engaging, it's not unique, it's not enjoyable. Once you do this quest, you'll talk back with the story npc who will boringly tell you go to XYZ planet and do it again, and again, and again. Same exact dialogue every time. You will probably never find these POIs in normal exploratory gameplay, hence needing a quest to hold your hand every step of the way. A far deviation from past Bethesda RPGs like Skyrim.

It's not fun, you will not have fun. Do not be fooled by shills on social media talking about how amazing this game is; it's not. I have never felt more burned by a game, and I wanted nothing more but for Starfield to be amazing.

Don't let the people who will inevitably mass downvote this review fool you into thinking what I'm saying is false.
