Yuzi Lims is an unparalleled masterpiece for the genre.
This Dark Souls-esque game may seem like a direct rip off from Dark Souls, however, you'd be wrong in saying so. The game immediately introduces you to the main protagonist - Yuzi Lims, who appears to be an average highschooler in Japan. You'd be incorrect in saying so. Once you click the play button, Yuzi starts running. This is clearly representative of the school shootings that are going on in the world - especially in places such as in The United States of America, Pakistan, Brazil or most importantly: Japan. Yuzi clearly wants to show that she is attempting to get away from all of these indiscriminate atrocities, and wants to let the world know she is not fine with the situation. After multiple thousands of metres ran by Yuzi, she keeps on going clearly implying that she is an world class athlete who has an infinite endurance representing how determined she is to resolve the situation.
The gameplay of this game is multifaceted. As Yuzi Lims runs, she must avoid these barricades (explicitly symbolism for the hardships faced by school kids, or possibly even her own hardships) that obstruct her path, dodging these allows her to keep running but if she does end up colliding with the barricades, she stumbles - this could possibly represent the downfall of other students such as those who end up doing the shootings and her, as an average highschooler, also being able to go down the same path. Additionally, as Lims continues to run and dodge past the barricades, she can interact with the spacebar in order to gain more "points" - possibly representing marks in class or overall happiness in life - equalling 600 for each push of the spacebar. She can also pick up coins which also give points - probably signifying that money in life also equals happiness.
Overall, the game evokes a level of sympathy for those currently suffering in highschool and how people like Yuzi Lims stand up against it. The game's story is, even though simplistic, extremely riveting to the core and finally, the gameplay is in fact superior to a regular Souls game, clearly making this the successor to Dark Souls 3.
