Ive heard so many bad things but honestly, i´m 20 hours in and having lots of fun.

Graphics are good, sound design is phenomenal, the weapons sound great even the weird sci fi ones.
art direction is on point with really cool armors, designs and enemies.

it´s an fps diablo like game (looter shooter i guess) with solid mechanics , runs very well , has quite a bit of different class options and skills..

i guess the people who complain are the ones who like the late game and have already played for hundreds of hours and are tired. i´m not one of those, i play until i´ve done all the dungeons and maxed out all the different classes once then i go to the next game.

if you´re like me this is a phenomenal game.

The other reviews are right, this is remarcably good.
i was so surprised at the quality of writing and dialogue and how much the first city feels alive with all the different quest options and how everyone talks to you.

not sure if the rest of the game is gonna hold up to the beggining but at least the first part is phenomenal.

Big worm, much sand, floppy robes, cool pew pews.

It´s great if you are like me and dont like having to pay subscription because you dont have a lot of free time to game... i can just hop in every now and then and not feel like i´m wasting any money.

Better optimized than FF16 on pc, but still stutters on 3080 sometimes, no fix as of yet.

the game itself is great, having lots of fun, i wish i could give an average review instead of just positive or negative because of bad optimization though

I finally decided to try because of the discount..

This might be the last modern game to kinda feel like those fun ps2 arcade style games we used to have.

This is a great game, i have played it before on my GOG copy a few years ago without any of the DLC , and i decided to give them some more support and purchase the full edition on steam now as well, to play it again now with all the DLC and updates.

so why am i leaving a negative review ?

simple reason, the game does not run well on modern higher end PCs anymore and from what it seems there are no plans from the devs to change or adress this issue.

i had to download a kaldaien special k mod and tweak the settings to force the game to NOT use most of my cpu cores because when it tries to use them all it absolutely tanks the fps.

so the only reason for the negative review is that it´s not running well out of the box, which is a big issue.

aside from that - regarding the actual game - here are some thoughts

- Voice acting - Great - 9/10
Phenomenal, easily up there with baldurs gate 3.
you get two characters on your party voiced by the same guy and they sound totally different.
lots of interesting accents that sound familiar to real world but just different enough to make it believable that they are from a fantasy setting.

- graphics - good - 7/10
the backdrops are still beautiful and since it´s a blend of 2d and 3d i think they will probably still look good for a while in the future. animation for attacks and movement could be better, more character variety would have been nice (more faces, more hairs etc)

- story and writing - GREAT - 9/10
yeah, i like it a lot. even if you didnt play the first game i think it does a solid job of explaining things and the world and the main quest, for me, was very intriguing and memorable.

The character quips between party members are great, i wish there were more of them and more often but they are very well done and on point.

there is a lot of dialogue but it doesnt seem excessive or like a character is monologuing out of a stage play like it happens sometimes in pathfinder wotr for example. they sound more like actual people having actual conversations in a very natural way. props to the writers for this one , well done.

- Combat and Gameplay - 8/10 - good
both the standard combat and the turn based combat options work very well and seem balanced (though easier and more monotonous with turn based)

the system is interesting and unique, not just another clone of D&D but similar enough to be intuitive for those familiar.

REPLAY VALUE - GREAT - 9/10

lots of different ways to accomplish goals, different party members to use, different classes, different gods to pledge to or not. it´s a very long game that i feel like you could easily play through at least two times before getting bored.

TLDR

This is a great CRPG unfortunately currently plagued by lack of support for running properly on modern hardware.

i got the full edition with everything included and this dlc was so bad i just play without it.
the rest of the game is great though.

Here´s the deal.. There is a GREAT game hidden under a huge pile of BS here.

The movement, shooting, flying, overall controls are HIGHLY improved over just cause 3.
i reinstalled JC2 after playing this one and i have to say the difference in controls felt like a slap in the face, this one feels much better overall. It also looks very nice, especially if using auto HDR on windows and highest settings.

There is a lot of fun to be had with some of the new machines and concepts, like connecting little rockets to your enemies and sending them flying, tying up the enemy vehicles with floating baloons and more.
so there is actually a very good game there.. but you can´t get to it because it´s hidden under a huge pile of stinking smelly hiccups and stutters and slowdowns.

every single time an explosion happens (which is a lot of times) the game stutters.
every time a new leaderboard number shows up.. every time you do anything new (as if it´s loading a shader)

even on my high end recently upgraded 4080 gaming rig... it runs smooth like butter but that butter got pebbles of stuttery ♥♥♥♥ in it.

EDIT : i should add that you can find several threads mentioning possible fixes for the stutters;which means a lot of others have them as well. Unfortunately i tried them all and though they did help a little bit it did not solve the problem.

i´m really hoping they throw out a patch that fixes this, but right now, my recommendation would sadly be to avoid and not purchase this item.. if the stutters ever get fixed, it´s a really good and solid fun arcadey game.

If this game ever fixes this issue i will gladly come back and make this a positive review.
