Man, I WANT to like this game, but it's grindy as hell and a 50/50 chance can instantly kill an entire run and routinely does. Armor and defense just aren't nearly as readily available as the game seems to feel they should be leading to one-hit deaths after perfecting every level so far. As well the interface feels pretty barren. This is such a GREAT idea that it's painful to have it be so mediocre in execution.

While it could use some final polish that knowing Edmund is likely to come later anyway, the game is a really fun romp with its own unique learning curve. The real highlight is the perfectly nailed aesthetic.

There's an awful lot that's solid here, but the game fails in a few ways. Your jump is a bit too floaty and the dash a bit too unwieldy, which ends in some really weird consequences. Most of the enemy robots themselves aren't too hard, but the bosses have limited vulnerability windows which really slows the game down. Finally, the game relies way too much on environmental issues to overcome like ice physics and wind tunnels over instant death pits.

I guess I don't really understand this game? I've spent three hours rubbing against walls trying to figure out where I'm supposed to be going, haven't seen any aliens but a few very pissed off people, one I got to hit over the head. It could really use a map that makes sense. Others that can figure out 3d navigation better than I do may like it, but the objectives are so vague I have no idea what the game is asking me to do at most times.

Joel never dies, he lives on in your work. It's a beautiful tribute to the faith and courage of the path that you walked together as a family. It's very heartening to see a game like this, thank you.

Diablo Cody and John Green have meaningful relations together inside of a blue officer box and crash landed on Square Enix' doorstop. The game can be endeering but the kids are a little too cute, with pop culture references flying.

Pros:
* The game play mechanics of altering time and each decision you make having lasting meaningful consequences is great. It's the sort of adventure game I haven't seen in a while
* Detailed, vivid world with more to explore than is obvious at first blush.

Cons:
* Everything is just a little...too cute. When your characters are more Juno and less Pretty in Pink, it leaves you with some characters that you're saying are multi-faceted but feel two-dimesnional
* I hope you like feux Moudly Peaches. That sound track is...woof.

That being said, I can see how people could love this game, but it's definitely not made or written for me. Which is fine! Not every game has to be written for my tastes, and most are! So I'm glad to see something a bit different in modern gaming, but I'm afraid I can't recommend it, and I felt I had to explain why. You might love it, so give it a shot!

I see a few negative reviews here, and I feel the need to talk about why you might not like this game. If you're more interested in going against the narrator...it's not the game for you. If you need to believe the box you're placed in to begin with, this is not the game for you either. This is a walking sim and a highly personal story, given a frame mechanic about being about some unknown game developer named Coda. To me, the conceit is pointedly thin. The narrator edits games constantly, and if you know games, you know that you don't...really edit other people's games. This game is about the narrator, and his understanding of himself and his needs. Coda, and his games, ultimately, don't matter. And, yes, people who make games do make games like this...pointless little exercises in understanding, so the games Coda makes aren't the realm of a game someone who makes games to make them happy would make, but that doesn't matter. This game is definitely a game about feelings, that takes you to a very unexpected place. It's a very...emotional ride, and at least for me, I didn't see where it was taking me. I knew from moment one that the narrator was to be questioned. Is Coda a real person? What's the narrator's real relationship with Coda? There's a lot of room for interpretation, but one thing can be certain. There is something wholey and unmistakingly wrong through the who game, and it's the questions that raises, not the gameplay or the conceit itself that are needed. You don't have to play The Stanley Parable to play this, and honestly, I wonder if having played that game may take away a bit of the impact of this game as you're already at questions with the narrator and its hallways to begin with. But, this is a, wholy, beautiful game. Play it alone, when you have an hour to kill, and a little time to reflect.
