You spend more time in the UI being told what to click on, rather than actually operating machinery. When you do get to operate the machinery, it's moving 1-4 containers and 'job done'.

Keybinds don't apply everywhere when you change them, making doing so almost pointless.

If you fail to do jobs in a specific order, you can soft-lock your save and have to revert multiple days to fix it.

The tutorial is forced, cannot be turned off, and guides you down a path that makes your job harder by failing to max out potential gains. This also means the first hour of the game is completely scripted and goes exactly the same every time, then the next hour after that is half scripted and goes almost exactly the same every time.

Most of us wanted a game that lets us handle massive amounts of cargo that we could move until our brains were fried. Instead we got a list of piddly little jobs to do in between daddy telling us what to click on, no thanks. I can't even recommend this on sale.

This game is an amazing concept, with absolutely horrendous execution. In all fairness, if you just want to relax and enjoy the game it's probably great. But, I have waited months for this game, specifically excited for the "free solo" difficulty, but the game is simply not ready for it yet. Between all the inconsistency and bugs, it's more luck than skill at this point. If you want a challenge, look elsewhere.

"Smart limb selection" is not "smart" at all. You constantly get into a loop where the character will just play drums on the rock, going back and forth between two limbs expecting you to get a better hold that just isn't there. Honestly, simply cycling through all of the limbs in a consistent order would be better than the game trying to decide for you. Yes, I realize manual limb selection is a thing, but it should not be necessary for every movement and slows your climbing down to a crawl. There needs to be an in between for these modes.

The biggest problem is the lack of consistency in different positions, you can contort the character to the point of sending your leg through your head while hanging nearly upside down and she won't complain a bit.
Then 2 minutes later, you can be leaning up against a rock face with near perfect holds just standing there with gravity on your side, and she'll start shaking as though she can't grip anything before falling off.

You cannot compost items directly from the ground, they must be placed in your bag first. This is a major problem when on "free solo" as your backpack is almost always full. Yet another example of this game simply not being ready for the difficulty options it offers.

"Free solo" difficulty is far too much of a jump from "Alpine", there should be a free climbing difficulty that still has checkpoints. As it is now, you go from climbing with equipment and getting checkpoints, to losing that equipment and only getting one life. I am only interested in free climbing, but when one glitch/bug can send you back to the beginning of the game, I quickly lose that interest and come here to write a negative review. Either add a difficulty between alpine and free solo, or remove the hardcore aspect of free solo until your game is actually ready for it...

I did try turning the difficulty down to Alpine (medium) but all that did is make the game boring and removed the challenge while retaining all of the problems... I was forced to the do the tutorial despite having done it 10 times in the demo (free solo allows you to skip it). My backpack was suddenly so massive that any amount of inventory management became irrelevant. Any fall is almost pointless because your backpack can hold weeks of food to heal you and you're belayed to only a matter of minutes or even seconds behind (meaning you likely won't even need all that food). You go from nearly zero punishment on Alpine, to losing your entire save on Free Solo, with no in between whatsoever.

TLDR; This game was actually pretty good, UNTIL I decided to do the achievements, then it showed its true colors. I probably will come back to this and get the last few achievements (because I'm stubborn and apparently hate myself). But, that won't take long and honestly the damage has already been done, my opinion isn't changing.

You have to unlock both sprint AND CROUCH. Core movement mechanics that you should just have from the start... I can think of several different upgrades to allow INSTEAD of those, which would mitigate many of my complaints. A simple one would be the painfully awful amount of time it takes to tie bags, but you're stuck with SLOW for the entire game. You could also implement a "leaf highlight" system, since that's not in the game at all for some reason...

Visual filters reset every game reload, not a big deal, but also incredibly easy to solve and avoids forcing people to switch it EVERY TIME THEY START YOUR GAME.

The worst achievement in the game glitched, forcing me to do it twice. I was doing the achievement for finishing the game without unlocking a single vent, I had a pile nearly the size of the trash can when some leaves started floating upwards. BIG SURPRISE, that room had ~70 leaves that no longer existed anywhere. I had to do the entire challenge over again. In total this wasted around 2.5-3 hours, and 90% of that time was spent STANDING IN ONE PLACE holding left click, then right click, OVER AND OVER. "FUN".

No keybinds menu at all, just a legend. Then to make it even worse, any connected controller disables keyboard input when detected. This includes a set of joytsticks that I normally just leave plugged in for flying games.

SUMMARY: Worst $6 I've spent in at least a year. If you don't care about completing the goals that games provides for you, then it's wonderful. But if you care at all about actually finishing games, this feels like the dev is actively trying to waste your time.

I probably have 100 complaints about changes they made to a beloved series, but I put up with those just fine. I'm leaving this review because what I paid for, what I spent 300 hours experiencing, what I enjoyed about the game... No one ever can again... Let that sink in, before you give them your money.

300 hours, into the one build I actually found satisfying.
300 hours, for everything I built to be nerfed by 70%.
300 hours, and I've lost all motivation to turn the game back on.
300 hours, and I can never again experience what kept me playing for that long.

Why buff what feels bad, when you can nerf what feels good?

OH, and I have a 99.9% character because there is currently a bug that doesn't allow a character built from lvl 0 to acquire ONE SINGLE ECHO LOG. To obtain this echo log and 100% a character, I'd have to start a new one at lvl 30 and do everything but the story again.

I launch the game, and am immediately annoyed by the expected UPLAY launcher, oh well... select offline mode and play the game. Seconds to minutes later (sometimes I don't even make it to the main menu) my game crashes and a UPLAY error appears telling me that "Your account has been accessed from another location and this may impact your game"... I'M NOT LOGGED IN.

Don't support Ubisoft, they milk everything they can from a good IP, while letting the games that made it good rot. The game runs fine, I know this because occasionally I make it past the menu and intro. The problem is the launcher that force closes it when it realizes Ubisofts needs aren't met. At this point they've sold me a title to tell me I can't play it without logging in while at the same time steam displays a warning on the store page that "Multiplayer and online features are no longer available for this product." So why log in?

Ubisoft, if this is business to you... then I'll get more pleasure out of watching you go bankrupt than playing your titles. Nostalgia sells, but clearly not enough to satisfy the greed of Ubisoft.

"Space trucking sim" = no keybinds menu.

Need I say more?

*DISCLAIMER*
I am clearly reviewing the games marketing here, not the game itself. Keep that in mind before you leave an angry comment. I am sure the game is great, but the advertising is not.

*sigh* Why do I have to do this? I have been waiting months for this, I have never sat here refreshing a page waiting for a game to launch before this, and yet I also haven't been this disappointed in years. What were you thinking to release a "space trucking sim" without even a keybinds menu? A complete disconnect from the audience this game will attract if you ask me.

I get it, this is clearly a very story driven game, however I don't see that mentioned once anywhere in the description or about page... This game portrays itself as everything it's not, only at the bottom in the section about the devs does it say what it really is, "an experience". I could tell from the demo this game wasn't as advertised, I also forgave the demo for not having a keybinds menu, considering it was a demo and all... In hindsight, I should have seen this coming.

I feel bad leaving a negative review after only 5 minutes of gameplay and right after launch, but I played the demo for several hours, completing it many times. The game started off exactly where the demo did (and actually bugged for me the first run because someone hit me and got me a traffic offense before I even left the truck, when I got out my truck was flying off and I had to restart). To be blunt here, I feel lied to. I'm all for a story driven experience like this, but sell it as that, not some space trucking sim that it's not even trying to be.

I bought this game for what it said was, and refunded it for what it actually is. In no way do I support any game without a keybinds menu, but a "sim" game? Come on... this is a joke, right?

...This is a difficult review...

I love this game... as much as I hate it.
With over 1K hours I can't really say "no, I don't recommend it", including DLC I'm at close to $0.03/h. This game has allowed me to build so much that would either never function in similar games, or would have needed to be far simpler in both design and functionality. The nearly endless options always leave me with something more to do and keep me coming back.

However...
Every time I come back I am promptly reminded of how excessively difficult basic tasks can be, how unintuitive and terrible the builder (in a building game) actually is, and just how much will power it can take to continue a build to the end. Not to mention it could be very well argued that in several ways notepad.exe is a more advanced tool than the ingame builder... for example: If you save a file in notepad and then hit close, it closes. If you save a build in Stormworks and then hit new, it reminds you that doing so will cause you to lose all unsaved progress, as it doesn't recognize you've made no changes since your last save. Don't even get me started on copy/paste.

PROS:

Building game with consistent updates and new content.
- This is wonderful as it avoids stagnation, brings players back, and since it's often DLC it helps fund the devs.

Lua scripting
- I feel that this speaks for itself, however it's worth noting you can make scripts for both your ships... and the game itself.

CONS:

Building game with consistent updates and new content. (Yes, the first pro)
- This is also a terrible thing, in a way causing the stagnation it avoids by pushing away players who spent days/weeks/months on builds that no longer work, and to get the full benefits of the update that borked your build, you have to pay for the relevant DLC.

Pre-determined and size limited building spaces.
- Most similar games that I can think of, you can build anywhere, you don't need to worry about getting too far from the workbench. Survival should be this way, I agree, but not creative, please... not creative. (oh right about that)

No pre-set creative mode.
- Your options for gamemodes are Career, Classic, and Custom. Custom is as close as you're going to get, and to make it a decent creative save you'd need to click "Enabled Addons" and disable pretty much, if not everything. Once in game you have to open the custom settings and turn off player damage, freeze time, disable weather... etc. Please... Just add a creative mode... I realize it would just be a preset of Custom with the settings left on, but that's literally all Career and Classic are... so please... please...

SUMMARY:

If you're seeking an upgrade from Scrap Mechanic or Trailmakers, I highly recommend Stormworks, as I'm unlikely to return to those games or others I've tried. That being said, Stormworks is a tool first and game second, if you expect to enjoy all of your time playing and want the game to hold your hand, stay way.

1. This game is riddled with bugs, many of them have existed for years.

2. There has been a steady flow of "Support DLC" (that I now regret buying) and parts being added while bugs that have existed for years, persist.

3. A second game is coming out while this game is in the state that is. That second game is launching as an Epic Games Store exclusive, just as this one did before it. Hmmm.

PERSONAL BLUNT OPINION:
"I paid for THIS game, supported THIS game. I will not BUY IT again, because you put a "2" after the title of an update. You have lost my trust as a developer, and I am sorry to say that I regret supporting you."

UPDATE: The first sentence is now false, I do not own all DLC, I quit buying them. I also now regret buying them, I do not however regret buying the game. I still do not recommend it to anyone looking for what I was.

This game is wonderful, I own all DLCs and do not regret it, however I am leaving a negative review considering when I move on from this game, I'm not usually in a good mood.

TLDR; Devs won't add blocks the community has been asking for (for years). Complexity limit is fixed unless modded. No control settings unless you change them for EVERY build you create.

This game is about building, yet the devs refuse to add basic blocks, for instance there is no 1x1x1 block. SEVERAL blocks that should exist simply don't, there are slopes with matching corner pieces and slopes without matching corner pieces. There is no consistency in the availability of blocks. This fact has also become a meme of sorts as the devs have acted in the past as though they had intentions to change these things and yet never have. The devs have even said that adding those parts would "alter the game play experience" and make building too easy, however I have to disagree with this. If you have an idea in your head and the only reason you can't build it or have to find some work around is the lack of a block the devs have neglected to add to "make the game harder", it's hard to enjoy your "game play experience", and leads me to turn the game off. I have hundreds of hours in this game when it very well could be thousands. Limit blocks from certain game modes, yes, but don't neglect to add them into the game at all. Lack of freedom is why I never stick around long.

Your build is limited to a certain complexity as if you're playing on console. Every ones PC is different in some way, complexity should be available in the settings menu for single player and server menu for multiplayer. A mod should not be required. Every game I start I load up the mod (thus opting out of high scores and subsequently a large portion of the "game play experience") and set my complexity to 2000, I have never had a single issue and I have had to turn it up on occasion. My "game play experience" is 30 to 60 seconds in a UI every time I load into a world.

Default controls can not be set. If you place an engine, it will be mapped to W/S, place a thruster, maps to space. This should be configurable in the settings. It's a waste of build time when certain things you place ALWAYS get mapped to certain buttons and you ALWAYS have to change them because you can't change the defaults. It's to the point I'd almost be happier if everything spawned in unmapped, at least then when I didn't want something mapped I could just not open it, rather than opening the settings and clearing the default mapping that would have been incorrect for me had I even wanted it mapped.

MY PERSONAL BLUNT OPINION: Seriously? I'm limited to certain blocks "to make the game harder" and the biggest challenge you can think of... IS PUSHING ROCKS AROUND!?... *sigh*... I want this to be one of my favorite games, and it easily could be, but the contradictory nature of the devs and their "reasons" for not listening to the community on mulitple occasions scares me away. Not to mention the recent release of High Seas which feels more like a tech demo than proper DLC. I love this game, but have little faith in the devs, and thus, the games future.

!!! WARNING !!!
I was just going through my old reviews and noticed this developer has removed their affiliation to this title (along with many others). "EcoGames" developer page on steam currently lists 5 games. 4 with no developer or publisher, and one game developed and published by "FireFly", whom is not "EcoGames". The store page for this game currently has a link above the "about game" in the description for another game called "Little Kingdoms" that is developed and published by... "LittleKingdoms"

I don't consider myself particularly smart, but something is very off here...

ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW:

1. You may have noticed that all of EcoGames games, are about easily making money with little effort. It seems as though this is exactly what they expect from their games. Easy money, no effort.

2. I have removed all other complaints, as if you cared about your game, they wouldn't exist. Thus my first complaint, says it all. If you don't like your game, why should we?
