It's in a way better spot compared to launch.

The modding community is significantly more alive, with mods like ACE ANVIL, RHS among many others now having momentum

Graphically it doesn't look anywhere near as dated as Arma 3, and doesn't induce, vertigo and motion sickness as bad as Arma 3 sometimes does to me
We've got actual real time lighting that doesn't look ass, incredible environment detail compared to Arma 3's barren wastelands and empty buildings, great texture and model detail, incredible animations (Not to mention vehicle entry animations!!!!)

Movement isn't clunky anymore and gives you so much more fine control than Arma 3 did, gone are the days of your character getting stuck walking, clipping into terrain, getting stuck or just getting physics janked in weird ways

Gunplay, equipment and overall interactivity is so much improved to what Arma 3 had, from being able to inspect your weapon and interact with attachments, fire selector, to being able to muck around with your environment, turning on lanterns, messing with radios

Even just gameplay mechanics like the in-built logistics and base building systems.

The Arma franchise before this game has always felt dated, since even Arma 3, a 2013, was still in essentially the same engine that the original Operation Flashpoint ran on in 2001, just beaten into shape with a hammer, blowtorch, welder and a grinder.

Meanwhile, this was built fresh out of the factory with new tooling, up-to-date designs and fresh modern materials.

Of course, it isn't a "full" title, and has nowhere near the amount of content as Arma 3 with a rather limited scope, but the content that it does have is polished to a so much better degree than Arma 3 before it that it's hard to go back to Arma 3 after my dedicated Arma 3 group gave Arma Reforger a shot.

If this is a sideline Arma title, I can't wait to see what a full mainstream Arma 4 will be like on this new, fresh engine.

This game kinda ambushed me when I saw it on Gianni's socials since he voice acts in the game (like most indie games)

It's basically Subnautica meets Half-life 1 meets project zomboid kinda?

It's a survival crafting game where you're a research stuck in the middle of a resonance cascade deep underground.

It's basically you're one of the poor eggheads that Gordon left behind in HL1.

It's a stupidly unique game that is both somehow quite funny in some aspects but also at times can be pretty atmospheric.

I'd def recommend checking it out.

I do not think the game is bad by any stretch in terms of it's actual gameplay, but it's unpolished as heck and right now the servers are imploding on themselves.

It's basically the same situation that Helldivers 2 had on launch.

Besides that, I'd recommend waiting but I won't give it a negative because I do think this game has value to it that's primarily only being hampered by the unfortunate situation with the servers, performance and polish and giving it a negative review at this point seems a little unfair.

For what it's worth, I can run the game fine on my 4080 with Frame Gen, but my mate who's running a 3070ti gets garbage performance. On the flip side, the game looks incredible visually, most notably it's lighting due to UE5's Lumen and Nanite being used to the fullest extent.
You WILL not be able to run this game comfortably if you're using anything less than a 30xx nvidia card or amd equivalent I would suspect. So do not expect to run this game on an 8 year old toaster.

Try FSR frame gen, and set the game to low if you're struggling and mess with the settings. The game still looks excellent on low even then.


If there is one gameplay complaint I have, it's the team-killing. Definitely something that needs harsher punishments.

As many others have said, it's basically just Call of Duty Warzone in VR.

Everything from gunplay, looting, healing and especially movement is all silky smooth but still interactive (although in that regard it still doesn't get anywhere near the top VR games for interactivity. Still fine for a fast paced battleroyale game)

Overall, it's not actually half bad.

The game does have a lot of jank, so I guess I can lump it in as another Eurojank game.
But it's definitely not horrible. There's a LOT of customization such as your squads and their equipment, difficulty, missions.

The Enemy and Friendly AI is extremely basic, it's pretty much RTS AI in first person. They mostly go where you point them to go, sometimes taking somewhat crappy routes or phasing through objects, but i suppose it's still serviceable enough. Just don't expect the most exhilarating, engaging FPS combat.

I think this game's strongest suite is definitely in the tacmap planning and command system where you can manage your teams right down to the individual level. You can tell them to move to a waypoint or series of waypoints, adjust their stance and speed, tell them to plant explosives or to engage targets. Akin to an RTS. I think this is what the game does strongest and is what I wish Ground Branch for example let you do.


The actual gunplay isn't really all that good. It feels a bit airsofty and all the animations are stiff as rocks, although engagement distances do feel right atleast.

All the weapon models are very... stock assets. I've seen the same weapon models 1000 times in other games, and a lot of them are... not good.
Such as the Lock-17. Which the name suggests it's supposed to look like a glock, but it looks more like someone tried to make a P250 with stamped sheet metal, a dremel and a dream.

The weapon stats also seem very arbitrary. Whilst higher caliber weapons do still do more damage of course, it seems weapons of the same caliber have varying performance assigned arbitrarily based on the weapon.


Overall, the game isn't too expensive and it does have something worthwhile imo. So maybe give it a look and refund it if you don't enjoy it.

Fortress Forever is a free community developed game, It's essentially a look into if Team Fortress 2 went down a different route.

Fortress Forever is based on the original Team Fortress installments, such as Team Fortress Classic and QuakeWorld Team Fortress.

It is a class based shooter that focuses heavily on fast pacing with high speed kinetic movement akin to Quake with that source movement deliciousness on top.

It's definitely worth checking out, but it's been light on players for many years.

An incredible update to an incredible game. Definitely a great way to experience RTCW again. Also comes with a better engine port, so runs better on modern OS.

Tries to suck you dry of the cash in your pockets, but otherwise an excellent time waster.
