Before talking about the game in itself, I want to say thank you to Sid Meier about the franchise. At the beginning a video game adaptation of the Civilization board game, it began to be a universe of its own. I've played every single games from Sid Meier the first being Civilization III. this game defined my entire personality and made me discover at the age of four countless cultures and heroes. I'm glad to have grown with Civilization III and Age of Empires II.

This game is in my opinion the best of the franchise. I don't care about graphics when the gameplay and overall design is of this quality. When I was a kid I've played this game for hundred of hours without being bored and I didn't have the complete edition at that time. The excitement of finding the original game on steam (my cd is too old for windows 10 and 11) with double the number of civs that I remembered plus scenarios plus the original map editor... It was too much. If like me you grow with this game, you can understand the overall joy of finding this masterpiece.

The gameplay is fantastic, as good as I remembered. You have unique game mechanics that no other Civ games retried. It is a shame and at the same time makes it rare gem. To name a few of theses unique mechs: the palace, the best diplomacy system of all civ Games, custom civilization principle, easy city management...

if you like graphics with big flashing screens and Uncanny Valley Nightmares you will find this game outdated and boring. Civ III does not give instant gratification. It also has a comedic tone with the leader portraits that are changing in each era. Civ VI may have been inspired by the goofy and well tought designs of some characters from Civ III, while Civ V is more serious.

On the multiplayer level, I can't say much. I never were a multiplayer guy for Strategy games. But I intend to do it soon. I did some games with my brother and AI but not full players. However the multiplayer screen is well optimized.

However I've found some disturbing bugs and compatibility problems in this version that can break the entire experience. For instance, you will never hear the diplomacy sound of leaders because of the two channel trouble. Also when you finish a game and click on the X button, the game will freeze. You must click on Esc. This is ruining the game in some ways but some awesome individuals found the solution to these bugs.

To conclude: If you enjoy good gameplay over graphics, this game is for you. The game was well put into modern computers and i wish the same thing could be done to Civ I and Civ II that were also fun to play.
