A very good platformer with great visuals and a good story. The controls are sometimes clunky, as it was made for consoles with controllers. But I didn't have any problems completing the game, and I would love to see a sequel!!

While the game itself is fun, the dev's are terrible supporters of their product. The game was a mediocre console port, with glaring issues for the pc (performance, gfx, controls, interface/gui, etc.) While most issues weren't completely gamebreaking, they added up to enough to make me quit the game until propper support was released.

Two DLC's (one of which was originally announced to be free) and one year later, glaring bugs and issues are still abound, with no support. Now, they have announced the Year One Survival Edition - which includes the original SoD + DLCs + added content + gfx update + some bug/control fixes. Sounds great! Except they want to charge another $30, AND drop all support for the original SoD.

edit: Since this game is no longer supported, just get YOSE edition when it goes on sale for ~$5-10.

Really just a massive deathmatch with no real goal except to f**k people up. Usally big battles drag FPS down into single digits as the server(s) can't seem to handle all the action. Glitchy, buggy, unstable, and overall a chaotic mess...which is actually kind of fun for a while. However it can wear thin fast, but hey, it's free!

All in all- it's a mod and it's free; so if you already own JC2 (or can get it for cheap), then you've got nothing to loose

If you liked the original Red Faction titles because of their open worlds, faction system, and replayability; skip this at all costs!!

RF:Armageddon is merely an on-rails console port that has nothing in common with the original games in the franchise except detailed destruction, a few of the original weapons, and the Red Faction name.

The story is very uninteresting, and the dialog is just horrid. Everything smells of console trash; from the magic floating arrows over anything of interest, to the designated checkpoints, to the on-rails approach of each mission (i.e. cunscene after cutscene).

There are NO factions - 99% of the game is fighting aliens, not the EDF or any other factions. There is no free-roam; with very small corridors and caves that have the all too familliar checkpoint system that makes you reload over and over and over until you finish it.

In the spirit of the earlier RF titles, I can't recommend this game at all, unless you just want another mediocre console shoot-em-up.

5/10

An excellent space combat simulator that has all the bells and whistles of most AAA titles; except it's made by one person. Don't blow this off as some clone or half-assed attempt; this will give everyone who enjoys space combat sims plenty of entertainment. It may not be as polished or in-depth as games like Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen; but it is complete, and works 100%.

The star system is vast, mostly contained within our own Milkyway galaxy. I don't think any person has enough time to completely explore the whole area; as it would take thousands and thousands of hours to do so. There are many unexplored areas that are left for the player to find on their own; but there are plenty of "inhabited" planets and sectors in between to keep you busy.

There are planets with terrain, atmosphere, bases, vegetation, and resources that you will also need to explore, either by ship or on foot. You can customize your vessel almost however you want; from re-arranging the chassis and different sections, to customizing weapon platforms and even your character/crew.

The only "cons" that I have is the small (but active) community, and slow (but consistant) progress to perfection. However, these are easily forgivable since they are mostly my opinion, and theres still 1000x more to this game than just multiplayer and eye-candy.

There's really too much to write about, and I have barely scratched the surface. It's best to support a great and dedicated developer and see for yourself! It's cheap, and even goes on sale from time to time. Check out the official forums and SeeJay's www site for starcharts, information, and mods.

First impressions after playing the demo is that gameplay/puzzles are similar to Portal (but not a clone!!). If you liked the Portal games then you will probably like this one. I plan to buy this so if/when I do I will give a more complete review.

Don't assume this is your average military FPS. Arma 3 (and entire Arma series) is the ultimate military sandbox. Arma gives back the time you want to put into it. If you're just looking for some quick thrills, you're probably going to get frustrated and rage quit. However, if you want to take the time to learn the game, then the sky is the limit.

There is a fairly steep learning curve; and while the game isn't a true simulation, it still has simulation elements. Don't expect to install and jump into a 60+player mp server and do good; you will need patience and a little knowledge. There's plenty of showcases and training missions in the game; as well as some very well made tutorials\guides on the www.

In sp, you need to learn how to command AI teammates efficiently and effectively. There's nothing worse than moving to an ambush point and not being able to get everyone in position before the enemy sees you, the element of surprise is key.

If you're looking for the mp experience, I'd suggest finding a group and server that plays what you're into. There's a metric ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of different game modes, styles, missions, etc. that can be overwhelming at first. Take the time to search for "let's plays" or streams to see what game modes are for you.

Finding a good server(s) will help with performance and gameplay i.e. active\competent moderators, streamlined missions\mods, nice community, etc. Most public servers run like trash and have a lot of jamokes not ptfo, and\or they aren't optimized\managed correctly as well, which leads to poor performance and a terrible experience. So choose wisely.

Mods are what really make this game shine. Similar to TES\Fallout series', the mods can completely change how you play the game, and how the game performs). However, similar to those aformentioned games; it can have it's fair share of flaws. Mods can drastically change gameplay i.e. introduce bugs, conflicts, performance issues, incompatibility, etc. It's best to focus on just a few at a time or you will be dl'ing another 50gb+ of mods that you might play a few times.

My main con for the game is how some parts of the interface can be clunky (i.e. the action menu). However, the actual game menus, map, and gear screen areall fairly straightforward and simple to use.

People love to complain about performance issues; but know that Arma is NOT a console port and does NOT have it's gfx settings nerfed to run on ~5 yr old hardware. Most of the presets are still well above the equivilent console port settings (mainly view\object distances). Then add in AI, 50+ players, 3rd party mods\missions, and servers used to run console ports; then of course there's going to be issues. There's a ton of options, and some can go well above what most average systems can handle (mainly CPU). Take the time to tweak your settings; don't just click !!!ULTRA!!! and expect 100+fps in most missions.

For value, this is one of the top games I've ever owned. It's one of the only permanant games I leave installed simply because I can always load it up and do a multitude of different things if I choose, and there's no limit to replay value with the variety of mods\missions; and finding a good group to play mp with will give hundreds of hours of play.

8.5/10 - If you like sandbox type games and have a little patience, you will be handsomely rewarded with the Arma series.
