Disappointed with some of these reviews that say "awww too complicated", when they only have an hour or so in the game. After a while, you get the hang of it. The game even has a little guide that is very easy to follow.
Some ways to understand the game:
-Imagine pieces as moving across coordinate planes. In 2D chess, the rook changes 1 coordinate at a time, a bishop changes 2 at a time, and a knight changes 1 coordinate twice and another coordinate once. In 5D chess with multiverse time travel, the 1 coordinate-moving rook can move up-down, left-right, backwards in time on the same space it is on, and across dimensions on the same space it is on. The same can be applied to other pieces. Note that they can't move through other pieces, besides the knight, ofcourse!
-When you move the present back, the new board will be below your pieces. When your opponent moves it back, the board will be above their pieces. Also, if someone moves the timeline back more often than their opponent, the present won't move. Can't overheat your timeline machine!
-Play the game? Think a little? It is like learning chess, put simply. The puzzles do a great job at this! Also, ask questions, like "why can my piece move back" or "why the hell is that checkmate?". Try and figure things out gosh dammit >:(
