I wrote a review a few months ago. I said: "Darkest Dungeon II is a frustrating, stressful game that wastes your time." I could not have been more wrong.

Darkest Dungeon II is a fantastic story of redemption and hope, of facing and defeating your failures with, literally, the power of friendship, hope, and compassion. The core gameplay loop is of failure and learning and progress, both in the game with the Altar of Hope and out of the game with the amazing learning capacity of the human brain. This harmonises perfectly with the story and ensures that you will be better for the next run.

Darkest Dungeon II is art and its message is beautiful and touching, if you can push through your despair and frustration to reach the light at the end of the tunnel. It is worth it. I cried when I completed this game.

By the Flame, you will reclaim the world from your weakness. You will stand tall against the insatiable loathing, shoulder-to-shoulder with the poor souls who have known failure and despair and misery like you. And you will conquer that Darkest Dungeon.
