It’s easy to criticise this game for its notoriously high entry threshold—and many of the complaints are justified. I’m familiar with Pathfinder TTRPG, so I was prepared for WotR to dump dozens of traits on me. I thought I was ready. I wasn’t. The sheer number of subsystems is overwhelming. You need to plan your party build carefully just to maintain average efficiency. And the game offers no real guidance; instead, it swamps you with countless useless options. Entire archetypes are fundamentally broken, no matter how you try to play them. A druid subclass built for battling fairies—in a game without fairies? Really? Why is that even here?

And yet, I easily forgive WotR for this, because the plot and characters are magnificent. It’s rare for a game to make me think so carefully about character development or agonise over even minor choices. Hard-hitting questions, ethical dilemmas, and the chance to flirt with every major power in Golarion—it's all handled brilliantly.

The story’s variability across different mythic paths is astonishing. I’ve never felt such a sense of power in any other RPG. As an Aeon, I could rewrite past events, altering the history of the Crusade and the fate of the world. I don’t yet know what the other paths offer, but I’m sure there are more surprises. I’ll definitely play it again to find out.
