Tyranny is totally worth buying and getting into still in 2025.

Refreshingly Unique Experience
This game’s world and concept are so unique to any other game I have experienced. The depth that the developers put into the dialogue/story choices is amazing.
I will say this to anyone coming to reviews to look for info, there’s really no extensive guides for playing the game that I’ve seen. The game just doesn’t seem to have been popular enough for wiki sights to get extremely in depth details about most story choices and conversation decisions. As an example, the game itself has an option to reveal what relationship effects your choices will cause and even that isn’t accurate on a lot of choices.
BUT, this a good thing tbh. It’s a rare experience to play a game where you actually can’t rely on the internet to tell you every detail about the game that you want it to. As you play the game again and again, you really feel like you are discovering new paths and choices nobody else has ever done quite like you. It’s quite the experience too. Tyranny was really well designed and I can say from experience that 90% of all dialogue or story choices in the game have logical/sort-of predictable outcomes that affect the rest of the game. You will see that some choices you thought would do something don’t or had a strange/unpredicted outcome. But that is not the norm.

Combat
I cannot see any reason to play the game on less than normal difficulty unless you just want to quickly experience the game and varying stories. If you have never played games with combat like this, play on normal difficulty. If you have a good grasp on the depth of the combat system or have completed the game before, consider playing on hard. If and only if you are a sadist, play on POTD. If you’re not a sadist, what are you doing playing POTD? The only way to succeed in POTD is to play the combat as efficiently as possible. It sort of strips the fun and variety of the combat system out.
One tip for hard or POTD: lore skill is the most important skill. In the end-game, spells provide so much utility that you practically can’t ignore them even on non-mage characters.

Sale or No Sale?
I still suggest waiting on a sale. I was able to get the whole game and all DLC for only $26. Just the game was $6 on the sale if you wanted to know. In my opinion, the quality of the game and DLC feels like it should be worth around $30-$40 (So maybe $20 would be a good price for just the game). The game currently sells for $30 when it’s not on sale. So I personally think it’s worth the wait for a sale.

黑曜石比较稳定的一点就是对派系刻画，不是扮演英雄也不是扮演反派，而是在一个依赖漏洞来运行的体制中，扮演要站队某个漏洞的意外变量。主角扮演钦差大臣，在抽象法和当地现实之间找到解释空间，将暴力翻译成合法性的语言，从而达成使命——这个理念很好，但是游戏中还是以 CRPG 的玩法为核心，Roleplaying 不如一件好装备实在。或许在永恒之柱2、宣誓、Pentiment 的种种实验后，黑曜石能够舍弃陈旧的 CRPG 设计，找到能发挥自己的长处的更合适的体裁。
