Hello friends,

I have prepared a proposal for how I believe we should share our Free Company house. This is of course only a proposal for now and I welcome all of you to leave any feedback/criticism you think would benefit it.

Over the past month or so, there has been a bit of conflict over how the house should look, who should be able to furnish the house, should x or y item be removed, etc. For a long period of time, the house looked more-or-less the same with only a few (the big gil donors) being able to edit how it looked. I believe that as this is a house for the whole Free Company, all 120+ of us should be able to share in the fun of decorating and arranging the house. To that end, we tried to set up a date such that everyone could get together and renovate the house together - that didn't really work out. While many people seem to have strong opinions when the issue is brought up in-game, few actually bothered to fill out or reply to the Steam group post to fill out when they were available or to give feedback. There is also the issue that coordinating the 10+ people who are actually interested in decorating and getting them all to agree on how certain floors would look would be incredibly difficult. To this end, I think we should consider a new system.

The Proposed System:
The new system would give each floor (and the outside yard) to 1 person (that person can of course invite others to decorate with them) to decorate as they see fit for a certain period of time (1-2 weeks, 1 if a lot of people are interested, 2 if there is less interest). The idea is that people would apply to reserve whichever floor they wanted for the predetermined amount of time, during which they would have complete control over how that room looked, was decorated etc. So for example, Onion #1 might have control over the top floor, Onion #2 might have control over the middle floor, Onion #3 might have control over the yard, etc. This would last until the next time slot where if other people have signed up, they would gain control over their requested areas.

There would of course be restrictions. For example, certain items, such as allagan/primal furniture might be designated as unremovable. Adding OR removing new allagan/primal furniture would require a 50% or higher approval vote from the FC leaders (Master/Onion Emeritus/Chumps). This way expensive, but potentially unwanted items, aren't destroyed. If the person adding the furniture agrees to be willing to destroy the item (if the new designer who replaces them so chooses) after placing it without calling a vote it may be placed without calling a vote. (This is to prevent someone stuffing the house with unwanted destroyable furnishings which then might cause grief when they're destroyed). Unwanted but already placed unremovable furnishings may be placed in the "Room of Undesirables." Furthermore, each designer would be restricted to 1/3 of the total placable items (not including destroyable or other items designated as "unremovable") so that one designer cannot place overmany furnishings at the expense of the other 2 designers. For example, our medium house can hold 150 furnishings. Suppose we have 10 designated "unremovable" items such as primal furnishings, then the 3 designers would each get 1/3 of 140 placable items.

What do I do with the furniture?
Procuring new furniture would be the responsibility of the designer. The 2nd tab of the FC chest would be dedicated to holding old/used furniture (and would be restricted to only being accessible to FC leadership and current designers) which would of course be open to the designers to use/borrow from. Old/removed furniture should be put back in the FC chest. If there is not enough room in the FC chest, a storage room (personal room of someone's mule) might be built to hold excess items.

Who can apply?
To apply to edit the house, you must have reached the "Member" rank or above (exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis). Floors will be reserved by applying to whoever is managing the system with which floor/date you'd like to reserve. Furthermore, if you have already decorated a room or floor, you will have a lower priority to decorate/reserve a floor over other people who haven't yet gotten a turn. You also may not reserve a floor more than once within a 3 week period UNLESS no-one else applies to reserve that floor. This is to encourage sharing and so that one person can't reserve the same floor for weeks and weeks at a time. Not logging in within 2 days of your reservation date will also be grounds to lose your reservation if someone else has applied.

But what if I don't like how other person decorated the floor/already like how the floor is decorated?
The FC does not belong entirely to one person, or to just one group of people. Our FC is composed of a lot of different players with a lot of different tastes, some whom have been here for years, others for just a few weeks, but we all of course won't be able to get what we want. The fact that ownership will rotate through on a weekly/bi-weekly basis means that if you don't like the way the floor looks, you or someone else will be able to change it if they so choose. In the same way, if you already like the way the floor likes, if you are the floor designer for that time slot then you are of course welcome to preserve the current look or to restore the floor to its previous look when it is your turn to decorate. Finally, intentionally destroying the floor or trying to "waste" the space (e.g. removing all the furniture and not decorating/filling the room with nothing but tables, etc.) may result in loss of floor decorating rights. To strip someone of floor designer rights will require FC leadership to unanimously agree that the floor doesn't belong.

Reservations/conflicts will be resolved by the FC leadership.
