The post-war period in the island nation of Pataguay may be proving a "Golden Age" for capitalism, but it surely is not one for the people. The rich-poor gap under the neocolonial regime has been wide even for the region, and the majority of the population sees no benefit from the expansion of U.S. economic interests on the island. The majority of the rural population is poor, very unemployed, and uneducated. Life in the cities is better. The non-urban provinces, as usual, continue to be neglected. The Mafia pollutes the streets with hedonism, holding a monopoly in gambling and other similar enterprises. Social justice is non-existent. The government pays little attention to education, medical care, and housing. Life is not perfect, but revolutions don't happen in paradise.
