Anime (アニメ) is the Japanese word for animation. One sees it also sometimes called Manga Movies or Japanimation. It is used in Japan on all forms of animation, whereas in the West usually refers to Japanese cartoons. Anime can be both drawn by hand and by computer. Where the older animeer often hand drawn, it is becoming more normal for new animeer is computer animated, but mostly so they stylistically resemble hand-drawn animation.

The stories in an anime is mostly fictional, and there are animeer in almost all film genres, you can find. In Japan, most anime aired on television, which in Denmark is still relatively rare, although broadcasters have closed up for some series, including Last Exile. Beyond this one can without much difficulty providing anime on DVD (often imported from America). The films Chihiro and witches,'s Moving Castle, Kiki - the little witch, Porco Rosso, all of Hayao Miyazaki, has had theatrical premiere in Denmark, and there have been several animeer with the NatFilm Festival.

Much of the anime that is created is based on Japanese comics, called manga. Anime (and manga interchangeably) is often used to denote a specific character style, which many more well known animeer user. However, this is a somewhat sought definition as anime / manga has many different styles that do not necessarily have anything to do with each other.
