SourceCBL is a non-profitable organization that lets other communities keep hackers out of their SourceMod servers through a global banlist. This ensures all server running our service will be safe from notorious (and not so notorious) hackers and exploiters.

We strive for improvement and enhancement of any Source-related platforms, this is achieved through our API. This API is a sorted list of hackers and cheats which keeps unwanted players out of your servers.

All bans on this list are hand chosen and sorts by our very merticulously picked staff. The staff follow a very stringent set of rules and policies to prevent any misgivings and abuse of our system.

The end has come for SourceCBL

Hi all,

I am sure some of you might have noticed but our server has been down for the past 2 to 3 weeks.
Due to high CPU usage our server got suspended.
This most lightly happened because of the enormous amounts of API calls we get every day, each minute...
Also having no income from donations and furthermore no people who report hackers I have decided to stop the service SourceCBL has be providing for the past year.
It has been a bumpy ride but I enjoyed the ride.

SourceCBL is changing owner

It's been nearly a year since we started making the idea of a global community ban list into an actual thing. It has been a long but fun ride for me to be a part of it, to develop it and see it grow. We were three people in the beginning, myself, Dragonisser and AlexFlipnote. During our time alive some amazing people have joined and left us, and now it's unfortunately my turn to leave.

Due to real life complications I'm no longer capable of maintaining or running SourceCBL. It makes me sad because this project means a lot to me, and I've put a lot of time into it.

But it doesn't mean SourceCBL dies, rather the opposite. Yimura is going to take the place as the new owner from now on. I'm most likely never coming back to the same position, but you'll see me around in the Discord and the Steam group still.

Even during its peak time, it wasn't particularly popular, mostly because people don't want to trust a third party site with monitoring their player base (which is a valid concern).

True, though there was very little interest from actual server hosters to implement it, looking at the manual verification on if someone was actually a cheater to requiring users to record demo's of the offending player.

It was all a lot of manual work that was required.
Then the server hosting which was frankly at the time not implemented in a way that took properly care of resources available and would just be a constant CPU hog. (I believe the Laravel backend was running in debug mode rather than release mode, the redis server was exposed publicly and was somehow had gotten malware)

Sure we can re-implement this today with much better technologies and servers (causing less CPU usage as well as horizontal scaling), however there's still the issue of all the manual labour of verifying as well as having server hosters to actively use it.
