GamePass Ultimate Price Hike
I don't see a topic yet on this so I'm making one. Today Microsoft announced they're increasing the price of GamePass ultimate by $10, in the US it will go up from 20 bucks to 30, and here in Canada it will go from $23 to $34 CAD.

Apparently it will come with Fortnite Crew (lol) and Ubisoft+ to make it feel more valuable for the price increase.

Your thoughts? Do you have gamepass? Will you be keeping it after this or canceling?

Personally I never liked the idea of gamepass, I don't really like renting games.

Thats a lot of money to rent games.
$5 a month yes
they increased the price of their console too because they are hurting.
oh well ! time to sell to some middle eastern country like ea did
I saw memes about the page for cancelling your gamepass being down probably because of all the users trying to do so lol

I always thought it was a good deal, pay one month, play whatever slop AAAa game "day one" for that month(or rather week) then cancel it. Never did it myself but sounds cheaper than buying a new game without a discount.

Or well it used to be the case, if the lowest tier is 30$? Then nah not worth it.

Ultimate isn't the lowest tier, but the lowest tier offers a really limited catalogue, it's only 50+ games.
It's not worth it.

How long are gamepass subscribers going to keep subscribed? A year? Two? Five? Do they keep subscribed long term? 10 years?

At $30 a month that's $360 a year. In 10 years they will have paid $3,600 to rent games.

Someday, inevitably, Gamepass will shut down because no service lasts forever. On that day all these people will permanently lose access to their games.

On that day, I will still have my collection of Playstation and Nintendo games because they are all physical objects and I own them.
Aww man. I sub it to play games with my niece. I dont like giving Valve their cut. Meh.
And as much as I like the convenience of digital downloads, Steam is itself DRM. Someday Steam will shut down too, and all Steam users will lose access to their Steam libraries.

Which is why over the past few years I've been buying more Nintendo games and DRM-free games at GOG. GOG will let you download a DRM-free installer for your games so you can keep them forever.

Money is more important than this. Games as a service should not exist.

Yea. Going steamless is the only way forward here imo.
I never bothered with it, even when they had it really cheap (I think it was for the first month? Or maybe just around when they launched it? Don't remember). I just don't like renting games, would rather own them. Well, as much as you can "own" them through a DRM.
Don’t use it anyway
The ea pass is actually decent $5 to play new star wars games.
