Master of Pirates: Conquer the Major Civs
I was playing this mod a few weeks ago, and had my first game. I was playing with mainly just this mod.

During it, it seemed to go all well, with no issues, and my Psilon race was stuck in its own constellation with no one able to travel to it until they researched the tech to get through unstable interstellar lanes.

So good so far, I had the blast of my life, and my people flourished. We built an empire greater than even the Mongols or the British empires at its height, spanning a dozen star systems.

Then the news came that the Meklar empire got destroyed. I was wondering: huh? How? That civilisation is also stuck in its own constellation (all civs are due to map settings). And I am the no.1 tech civ and have not yet researched the tech to get past unstable lanes.

So I played and lived happily ever after for quite some time.

Then the news came that the Elerian civ got destroyed. What the?

In the next turn, the Darlok got destroyed too.

I then found out what was happening because I had omniscient trait under custom Psilon.

It turns out that pirates were building ravages too powerful that no other civ could muster any defense against them. So their worlds all got razed.

It was then I knew that pirates have taken over the universe, and it is only a matter of time before the galaxy becomes conquered by them.

It truly was, Master of Pirates.

So, is this a bug?

What difficulty and game setup options (tech level, game speeds, etc) were you using?

A few weeks ago as in before the latest update?
And do you use UCP? (Installed correctly?)

Normal difficulty

Game speed Classic

Tech level pre-warp

Map = cluster, large for 8 players

Custom civ = Psilon with omniscient and 200 extra point cheat

Other mods used:

- A mod that increases pollution clean-up structures' efficiency

- Extra planet spawn mod (the one where high = 90% chance for 5 planets)

Yes, it was UCP

Anyway I'm playing with pirates turned off (with monsters off too, just in case, lol), and I'm at 300 turns, and its all good so far.

Pirates have always been a bit problematic on pre warp. In a recent update, I delayed when they start spawning by a bit, but it may not have been enough. Also the AI just aren't very good on Normal difficulty, so you might try a higher one.
