Uhh. You're wrong for the second one, you don't need power on at all. It's actually on the wall next to the drop-down at the dig site.
And, I mean, the switches are pretty easy to find once you know what you're looking for. :P

I tried activating it by clicking around it, but can only seem to activate it after i turn on power. That's the way I found it.

You press f to activate the switches.
