Ah, so you really can't build on steep hills. Dang.

A ceiling with four walls hanging off is designed to look the same as one foundation, You can even set the ceiling material to foundation cobble. So if you use a ceiling with pillar support and then hang walls downwards, it will allow you build on hills. The walls even clip into the terrain creating no gaps :)

Why not snapping a level up or down? Like the S+ foundations or the other castle mod?

I have discovered (probably not the first, but did not see it mentioned) a way to build on hills using foundations with the keep models. Place as many foundations as you can at the highest altitude you want your building to be at floorwise. Then go to a downhill edge and place two ceilings out. Then to the bottom of the 2nd ceiling attach a keep pillar. Then attach a 2nd keep pillar at the highest ~halfway snap point of the first pillar. There is usually two snap points that are possible at the halfway point it seems. Once the 2nd pillar is attached, place another foundation adjacent to it. It should snap so that the pillar is attached to the edge of the foundation, not the center, and the foundation is now vertically aligned -1 walls to the others, but it is +0.5 foundations out of alignment horizontally. Pickup the pillars and floors and now place a wall on the nearest edge of lower foundation, and repeat the pillar trick, but only using a single floor now and back towards the original foundations. Once you snap another foundation to to the pillar it should now be aligned in all 3 directions, but is one wall height lower. You can then pickup the pillars, ceiling, and wall. Then snap foundations like normal at that height until the slope requires another step down. If you have admin privs fly/ghost mode helps alot, but it is possible to do this without the cheats for most inclines. Hope that helps!

I found the same sollution and it is working great. Use it also now for making large stairs. Every time one pillar snap down and you will get a large stair for dino's and is looking great. Then i use the lower snap on the pilar instead of the upper.

You can also do this "step down" (or up) by building a wall on the edge of the fountation in the direction you want to go, then a ceiling at the top of the wall (in the same direction) and then the pillars from ceiling. This is also handy if you want to get a foundation attached to an existing ceiling (for instance if you're finishing a bridge).

As mentioned above, when attaching the pillars the first pillar should be flush with the ceiling (i.e. nothing protruding - it can be tricky to get it to do that), then the second pillar should be done so it's at the higher of the two "middle" snap points. The top of the 2nd pillar must be equidistant from the top and bottom of the first pillar.

placing pillars is a nightmare....they tend to NOT snap where I want them and even then they are placed somewhere else although the shadow pillar looked good

I found a different solution.

Start on the highest ground. Build foundations until you cannot place anymore because of the downslope. Then place a ceiling off of it. Place a pillar under that ceiling. Then place another ceiling on the bottom of that pillar. You can then place a foundation under that pillar. Once you do that, remove the lower ceiling. Then, you can either wall off the ceiling/pillar, or remove them and build stairs to transition from the lower to higher.

Its common sense how to do this, like the dev said ceilings and walls will look the same as a foundation, used in conjunction with pillars problem solved.

I'm glad it was revived. Saved me from creating the same thread. Idk y ppl complain about necro threads if the content is relevant.

If he would have posted something useful it wouldn't have bothered me. Or if he posted asking for help. But he posted it's common sense and to do what the above posts said.
