Any update here? Same issue.

First create salt then add the fish or prime fish. It looks like you still get meat and prime meat as a byproduct for what I can tell this is the ratio for the primes at least

1x salt + 3 raw prime fish = 1x can raw prime fish + 2 cans raw prime meat

for normal fish it is different and I'm not going to bother much but it was something like
~1000 fish = 43 cans of fish + 12 cans of meat
