No it is not. The point of playing HOI4 is to explore *alternate* histories. If I wanted to recapture what actually happened, I'd watch a documentary.
That being said, the mod doesn't even do it historically:
- Italy always sides with the entente from the beginning, which didn't happen historically
- Britain is always a member of the entente proper, from the beginning, instead of just guaranteeing Belgium and being *on the fence* about joining the war, as it was the case historically
- You get zero choice in the unrestricted submarine warfare, which historically pissed off the US (along with the Zimmerman telegram, which is like I said the *only* choice you have in the mod). It is just always assumed by the mod that sub warfare happens.
- The US always picks the most anti-German route it can get. Historically the Americans were reluctant to get involved, just like the Brits.
About your last point: I *always* had historical focuses turned off. Hence what I said, the mod is completely railroaded to make everyone except Austria go as anti-German as possible. Alternate routes exist in the NF trees of other countries, for example Russia can go neutral and even flip over to the central powers, Italy can go pro-German and remain in the central powers for the duration of the war etc. but the AI NEVER picks those options even with historical focuses off (besides, I don't think the historical focus setting would work with an overhaul mod like this).
On top of this, when the actual triggers happen, you again have zero choice in how to respond. Want to go ahistorical and not give the carte blanche to Austria? Too bad, war right away it is....
This whole thing is just horrendously misdesigned.
The mod is quite unfinished, but you CAN get Italy to the central powers side, it just requires Austro-Hungary to make consessions, same goes with Russia. The AI coding in this mod basically meant you have to be actively trying to change history, instead of having them happening randomly. It is quite annoying if you are playing single player and your AI allies just went full-stupid, but that's a problem in the main game isn't it lol.
Hello I do not know how to play you but I made capituer France in 1914 with 5 army of 24 divisions of 20 in width.
with ~ 8 division of 40 + heavy artillery
12 cavalry divion 20 wide
and 8 brlinder / cavalry brigade of 10 width
2 army against France who will fix their division during offensive
you will need divisions with a lot of organization to keep them in combat as long as possible.
the goal is not to advance but to fix the enemy divisions to avoid their movement towards the west
all the rest facing belgium
the hardest will be lile and spend the sum followed by the seine
my goal and to cross the Seine because it is an obligation to be able to capture Paris
if you don't go through the seine it's going to delay you can be from 1 to 2 years
the solution and to make a departure towards the Bretage and Normandy its will reduce the delay to around 6 months
France capitulates not far after
3rd army landed in grand bretage
1 army by east
1 army in the balkan
the rest of the special forces and others go east.
in general the great bretage capitulated in 1915 russia am very quickly or in my longest games 1916
and italy comes to war to destroy it I don't know when considering that the great bretage capitulated in 1915 I have but 3 army back near for it
if you want I can make a youtube video without editing since I don't know how to do it
for the diplomatic side of the mod I admit that I did not look too much
They didn't.
Yet, at other times, the AI behaves in ways that are both ahistorical and nonsensical. In all of my Central Powers playthroughs, White and Soviet Russia end up peacefully coexisting. Also, if you somehow prevent the Great War from starting (an Ottoman victory in the First Balkan War will do this), you end up stuck in limbo, as no other event raises world tension enough to enable justifying war goals.
here is my strategy:
put a good 48 or so 20 width on the west and hold your lines. most of the time i can do so without losing more than a couple provinces in Belgium or the Netherlands which i rushed as soon as the war started to gain some extra land (stop once France arrives in force). Next off send the rest of your army into Russia... now this is easy if you play it right... i mean look at Poland it a natural salient so use it. i have had games where i encircled a good 100 Russian divisions by smashing the extreme flanks with cavalry+armored cars along with mass infantry.
once you take the east you get a nice KaiserReich style peace deal once the commies take over. now you just send your entire army west and flood France with German soldiers. The only part of this that takes much effort is remembering to have trenches and forts on the west to hold and bleed the enemy out while your in the east.
if you want a demo i can co-op this with you :P
glhf hope it helped
