I just started playing a Borg game for the first time and noticed the huge unity (4000) and research bonus (10000, with assimilation tradition) assimilating species within the first contact protocol.

However, while getting the unity points it seems my research points simply vanish as they should have given numerous technologies but research isn't accelerated.

Any ideas what I'm potentially doing wrong or whether this is a bug?
