Federation and the probe
Federation and the probe
Hi,
I keep failing with the second probe and it's not that fun playing basically as Mars.
I can build up my army to defeat the first probe but there I can't do anything against the second.
I usually manage to build up 600-800 power fleet but it's way too weak. I manage to get some defensive pacts with Andorians or Vulcans but they never help.
Any pointers on how to start with the federation- what am I missing.

Also, in the early stages of the coalition (usually Andorians, Vulcans, Tellerites) cohesion sucks, what are the best ways to make it better? I’ve tried assigning multiple envoys but especially when you start it’s hard since you have only 3…any tips?

Dont be in a rush to do the missions. Once you defeat the probe, wait til the timer hits about 150ish to do the first research. Then, I bring my fleet ships back to earth, but dont do the second research until around 100. This gives me time to build up my fleet and my tech. During this time, I also build 5 transports and get General Hayes so that when the Mars event starts, I am ready to quash it like a bug.

There's a better way. Don't build any fleet at all and use the resources for colonies, additional survey ships, and Starbases. Allow the initial devastation. Do the research immediately. The Xindi fleet scales to your fleet size and if you have nothing, your Starbase can easily solo it, especially with Enterprise and the allied ships.

Sounds counter intuitive but try it - you slingshot early growth and are ready to build a fleet of NXes right after the event because you have saved up alloys.

Smooth sailing from there to forming the Federation around 2165.

Just tried it but it didn't work. I had no ships but the Xindii attacked with their normal ship numbers. Destroyed my 1.2K starbase and that's that. They still had a destroyer and a battleship

I am not :), I just can't build enough ships. I only manage to go to about ~1K of ships at the moment of the attack which sucks against a destroyer and a battleship..:/

Once the probe hits the first time, I keep my scouts running, but for every sector I annex, I drop down 2 frigates. That allows me to have a fleet of around 24 ships. I dont worry about going over the amt of ships I can have. I just take the hit on costs and keep selling stuff to stay in positive credits. Once I do the other probe, when its all said and done, I an down below the required ships I can have and the probe is dead. Thats what has always worked for me anyway....

Increase your alloy production at the beginning. You really need them for science/colony ships, outpost, starbases and military ships. Sell evrything you don´t need (Dilithium, Consumer Goods, Kermocite, etc.) and buy alloys. Make trade agreements, where you give your neighbours useless stuff für alloys.
Alloys are THE limiting factor for expansion and warfare early game, so be sure to get enough of them
