Quest Signal from old Earth failed
I have a Laser Comm Satellite, but the quest fails after 2-3 turns at the stage "Continue studying the signal" (i.e. the step after choosing the bonus when launching the Satellite).
Do I miss something, something I need to build, click or do? Or is this a bug?

Not a bug. The Signal ends because something has gone wrong on Earth not because of any failure on your part. One of the Signal related quests always fails when the Signal ends. The other quest asks you to eulogize Old Earth and then completes.

Uhm... then... rushing to get the Laser Comm sat up in time is actually pointless? Like, ok, you get a reward for completing the quest but story wise you lose contact anyways at about the same time, no matter if you launch the Sat or not?

Launching a LaserComm gets you some Affinity points. It also makes it so you get full Signal benefits from turn 50 to 100 (standard speed) instead of reduced benefits from Signal Collectors/Archivers/etc.

Rushing for a LaserComm is not intended to be mandatory.
