The fuzzy textures and such are caused by the hardware being unable to process everything that's going on. Not to mention, non-dedicated sessions tether players together which is simply hideous, lol.
Your options would likely include upgrading the host's computer (could be quite expensive) or finding a friendly public server to play on.
My server is always open to new players but we do have a lot of mods running so, if that's not to your liking, you might find something more suitable to your tastes elsewhere.
