Have a new awesome idea for the mod, put it here :)
Altough I have a pretty thoughtout roadmap for this mod, it would be cool to hear input from all you guys, from adding buildings, events to changing existing routes or even new ones. I promise Ill evaluate your idea to check if its feasable and usable for this mod :)

Thanks for all the great input I have gotten so far :)

Maybe you can use this map as an inspiration for other trade routes?

Picture is from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silk_Road

I already have used this map :P it was one of the first ones for me to look at. I cant add every single route of course, that would be insane, some routes in the game resemble multiple in the real world.

Anyhow, thanks for the support nonetheless :)

Perhaps you could include the expulsion of the Jews decision in this mod by making it create a chance that some of your trade posts will be abandoned.

Do you think it would be reasonable to increase disease outbreak chance on trade routes, too?
Hark de Graaier  [开发者] 2015 年 7 月 17 日 上午 10:47
Actually Ill add that your trade income will be significantly reduced :) Thanks for the idea :D

Hey! I'm loving the progress. This mod is really coming together.

Another thought on Britain: I think the Silk Road route in London should also pass through neighbouring Kent. Kent was the wealthiest (per capita) kingdom in pre-unification England, and still managed a lot of incoming trade after unification. Would you consider adding it?

So the ships didnt directly go on the Thames... hmmm.. did not know that, but yeah sure Ill update it in the next patch :) (btw do you have a source on it or something, not that I dont believe you but its good to have a source :P)

Yeah adding every single one of them would be a mess, maybe the one going through Africa?

Oh it seems I didn't explain myself clearly. Ships certainly did go directly into the Thames, and London should remain a port node by all means! I did not mean a land route from Kent to London, but rather making Kent a new port node which then goes out into the seazone, then back into London.

London was definitely still a very important port in its own right (and actually more important than Kent, but that doesn't eliminate Kent's importance).

Here are some sources:

"Frankish material culture from this period has often been found from archaeological contexts in Kent, but is absent from other areas of lowland Britain, suggesting that Kent may have had a trade monopoly with the Frankish kingdom." - Wikipedia

"Two additional Kentish emporia must be considered. Sandwich, situated at the eastern mouth of the Wantsum Channel, appears to have been an important port from at least the mid-seventh century [...] Finds of Frankish glass beakers at Buckland also suggest very early Kentish trading activity in the Dover area. That Anglo-Saxon Dover was an important port of the early Kentish realm is attested by a (toll?) charter (697 X 716 AD) of King Wihtred". -Daniel G. Russo.

I won't spam you with more XD

You should probably also add Schleswig to the Amber-route. It was an important point between Denmark and Germany,

Ill add both provinces to the trade routes then :)

Hey! I have a little idea to improve mode and maybe balance:
1. Silk Road must end somewhere in genoa and tunis, next should be local trade route, western routes should not have direct connection to silk route, suggesting genoa and something else as entrepot.
2. Amber road should not go in russian region deeply as well as silk road, insdead of them use "trade route from the Varangians to the Greeks" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trade_route_from_the_Varangians_to_the_Greeks
3. Additionaly, to represent trade in that region more correctly add "Volga trade route" through Volga Bulgaria lands to Persia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volga_trade_route (this may require a reworking of baltic trade or more)

Theoretically the amber route was connected directly to the Varangian-Greek trade route. The Varangians needed amber to purchase goods upstream from the Mordvins and Finns. Without amber in the North, the Varangians couldn't sustain a profitable trade with the Greeks. So if the amber cut out, their trade with Greece would suffer. I think it's reasonable to represent it all as the same trade route for the purposes of gameplay, though you are right it wasn't exactly the same. Also it helps performance as the mod maker has pointed out :)

Varangians had a lot of stuff stolen from Western Europe to trade with Greeks.
And later in Scandinavia was a lot of things to offer for trade: Raw iron, ambergris, walrus bone, weapon etc. Additionaly that region was rich with fur, which has been in demand evrywhere.

This is map of Amber Road:

And this is Varangians to the Greeks (purple):

The west branch, well, maybe, but eastern not, this is not same route at all

"Trade route from the Varangians to the Greeks" had huge influence on that region and i think should be represented as separate route.

Making one route represent just one route would be crazy, the Amber Road represents a number of trade routes of which the Amber Road is the biggest. I wanted to include Novgorod to make it better represent the importance it had for trade, and for it to be able to build the important center of trade improvement. The Silk Road represents the flow of Asian goods, if some war happened in the meditaranean (hope I spelled it right lol) asian goods were not going to Paris/London/Brugge. And to be fair a lot of asian goods ended up in London/Paris/Brugge

I know about the Volga trade route but as I said somehwere before (I believe on the forums) that would make two trade routes go through the exact same provinces but in opposite directions, it would be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. About the Varangian route, I do want to add it but as of right now I am hesitant for adding more trade routes atm as performance is subpar for many people.

Sounds rather arrogant to me, I could have misunderstood though.

Remeber I am not going to recreate the trade routes perfectly on par with history. Its more of a close representation or abstract representation.
Lantians 2015 年 7 月 19 日 上午 4:16
I would suggest making the 'direction' of the route based on who benefited most from the trade, historically. Is that a workable extrapolation?
