I have noticed that for Germany and other nations that if you set the time period to 1939 and or 1940 you cannot spawn in infantry at the start of the game which causes the AI you are fighting against to automatically lose about 30 seconds in. It will only give the option to spawn tank crew and sappers for specialized soldiers and the only squads that are available are paratroopers that you have to wait about a minute to get.
