Also there's the thing that not all ships are the same hence not all cockpits need to display the same information, so it's really tricky.
and every ship is 'more flyable' knowing where it is going.
i think that GUI styles or functions could be different for each cockpit.
assuming for example that a small fighter cockpit would be used on a fighter ship would be acceptable. i would begin with the big ship cockpit though, the one which has the little dashboard, it gives lots of room for tinkering.
and if all this is not satisfactory, maybe make a deeply and highly configurable mod, some kind of 'moddable mod', that could grab 'configs' from inside the game, from places like text panels or programmable blocks.(if inside the realm of possibilities of course)

Also, even though i cant code, if you need someone to design things for you, or to model them in 3D, or if you need sound effects (for this mod or other mods) i can and want to help, since i work with this, i think maybe i could be of help.
