You need to learn new stuff, in addition Rome is not easy starting faction. Rome has easiest mid/late game BUT one of hardest starts.
Try submod I made for new players, you will have a bit easier start before stuff start to happen:

Try reading my guide, there's a suggestion on how to deal with Pyrrhus' army in Taras. It's not the only way, several other strategies to defeat them. But it works and all but guarantees you wont lose any characters in a battle defeat. Epeiros just have that small army in Taras, and they can't recruit units very fast, while Rome can get 6 very strong units per turn in Roma. Rome faction is only tough in the beginning to defeat Epeiros because you don't know what to do, but once you figure it out it becomes a walk in the park.
Rebellions are not so bad as you might think. It's really just another battle for you to farm xp, slaves and loyalty from. In almost all my playthroughs I like to own crappy little frontier settlements where I max out the negative PO maluses so that I can get as many rebellions there as possible.
lol, yes it was. I can't help it sorry. It's all your guys fault actually, for making such an awesome mod, one of the best mods in gaming history
No, that's exactly what it is not. In DEI there are many valid approaches to strategy and tactics. There's not one strategy that you MUST do to git gud. Truly, I ♥♥♥♥ you not, you can focus on a whole bunch of different stuff that all will result in very powerful effects, but in different ways; and only actually powerful if you understand and know how to apply.
You cant fight so many wars on different fronts - befriend via diplomacy is key :)!
With Rome, it was easy for me... took over the world!
Such a OP army...
