i'm not sure if it is right to ask you to make the mod compatible with Shoetime, but i hope i can use both mods some day/

The only way I have found to subvert this is if I want to change my backpack skin, make a second backpack, and right-click to Wear As Cosmetic, at which point the first backpack will drop, and the crash will not occur. But if I try to drop the currently equipped backpack directly, I get the crash.
I use Architect Pack so my client and server logs are very long, so I had to past them in multiple parts, I hope that's okay!

Edit: I just tried doing it the way I described above, but it still resulted in a crash this time. I was finally able to get it by equipping an armor as my cosmetic to force the first backpack to unequip and then equipping the next backpack with the skin I wanted.
Okay, it seems to be an inconsistent issue, sometimes it does not happen, other times it does. I'll be adding an extra check for it, let me know if it still happens for you after the update.
Okay, that did solve the bug, thank you! But there seems to be another issue now. I can no longer shift-click food to quickly add it to the crock pot. I have to physically pick it up from the fridge and place it in. To be sure it was related to the Cosmetic Slots update, I disabled the mod and reloaded and was immediately able to use shift-click again. I can't recall if this is a default function within the game or if it was added by QOL mod so I'm not sure if this is a mod conflict or not.
It is a game thing, not from mod. Could you try replicate that in a world with just this mod?
Okay, shift-click does work in a world with no other server mods except Cosmetic Slots enabled, so it does seem to be conflicting with a different mod. I accidentally forgot to disable my client mods but none of those seem to be the issue since it worked fine even with them still in. I will try to do some further testing to see if I can figure out which of my mods is causing the conflict and get back to you!
I found out its not caused by any mods. Its a game issue, only happens if the backpack is closed.

Thank you for the update! I did some further testing to see if I could resolve it in my current world, which yielded some very weird results. I went through all my mods thoroughly and found that when I disabled Lunar Tools, I no longer had a problem in my preexisting world. Starting a new world with all mods enabled including Lunar Tools, I had no issues, but the only way I was able to get shift-click working in the world that I was already running was to disable that mod and no others. I can live without Lunar Tools, it's just very strange that disabling that mod would resolve the problem in this world, given that you found it is a game bug rather than a mod issue.

Edit: I should clarify, I was having the shift-click issue even with the backpack open when I had Lunar Tools enabled. I still experience the bug with the backpack closed, the same as your video in the official bug tracker post. Disabling Lunar Tools just made it possible to shift-click so long as my backpack is open.
