The British 3rd Infantry Division, earned its nickname "Iron" Division in the Great War. In 1940, it was part of the BEF and participated in the Battle of France, and its commander was Major-General Bernard Montgomery until Dunkirk.
The division kept training and was held in British Isles, until Operation Overlord. They landed on Sword Beach on June 6th, and was reinforced by many formations, including 1st SSB and 27th Armoured Brigade. The division artillery units switched to self-propelled guns, M7 priest for its artillery, and M10 TDs for its anti tank battalions, to increase its mobility.
In late 1944, the division attacked Overloon, Netherland, after 11th Armoured division relived the US 7th Armoured division. The Ironside was supported by the 6th Gurad Tank Regiment's Churchill tanks in the attack.

In the alternative history setting, 3rd Infantry Division is performing the same roles as its real life counterpart. It is upgraded as a motorised/mechanised infantry division, with vast armoured vehicles.
Same as the many new divisions, 3rd Division's Motorised/Mechanised Infantry units are equipped with the newer EM-2 rifles, enabling full-auto fires and enhance the assault capabilities. The more traditional rifle units switched their old Lee-Enfield No.4 or M1 Garand, with the newly adopted L1A1 FAL SLR. This new battle rifle is powerful while holding a magazine of 20 rounds. Although still equipped with some old PIAT, the division mainly utilise either M20 Super Bazooka or 3.45 inch recoilless rifle as their personal anti tank weapons on Platoon level. The infantry Battalions are equipped with 120mm L2 BAT guns, and some L4 MOBAT on jeeps, for shoot and scout.
Divisional anti tank battalions mainly equipped older M10 Achilles and A30 Avengers, but newer weapons, like Conway, are also field in the division. Field artillery regiments are formed by mainly M7 priest or Sexton, and one medium artillery regiment with Crusader 5.5 inch SPG is reinforced to the division, also a heavy battery of US made M43 SPG is also under the division's command.
27th Armoured brigade mainly equips Sherman and Firefly tanks, newest Centurion MkI and MkIIIs, and Stuart and M24 Chaffee for its recon units.
The 6th Guard Tank Regiment, although not a part of the Division's sub-unit, does support some of its operations. They field mainly Churchill tanks, some Black Prince, and the newest Conqueror Heavy Tank.
1st SSB and 45th Royal Marine is also in the support, although they are only available in the early phase. Part of 6th AB's paratroopers also join the ranks as they are relieved.
The 6615 Ranger Force was a regiment formed by the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Ranger Battalions, reinforced by the 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion and several supporting units. Although it was a regimental-sized unit, it was further supported by other formations, such as the 352nd Glider Infantry Regiment and the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment. The force was ultimately destroyed during the Battle of Cisterna in the Anzio Landing of 1944.

In an alternate history scenario, the force lands in Italy in 1946 as part of Operation Husky and the subsequent Invasion of Italy. It is composed of the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, and 10th Ranger Battalions, forming two Ranger Regiments. Supported by the 504th and 509th Parachute Infantry Regiments, the 325th Glider Rifle Regiment, battalions from the 36th Engineer Brigade, and additional supporting units, the force is organized into a reinforced, brigade to division-sized special operations group. Its tasks include preparing for special operations, raiding enemy positions, breaking enemy lines, and conducting specialized missions.
The concept of the formation is very similar to the British Special Service Brigade. US Army first deploy the formation in 1944 Africa and later 1946 Sicily, although there are many problems, it is approved to be effective. Later, it also participates in invasion of mainland Italy and Allied rush to Rome campaign. Quickly, US generals learn the lesson the hard way, never use this formation like ordinary infantry divisions. During the battles, Rangers suffer heavy losses, resulting the 1st Ranger and 3rd battalion almost being wiped out. As a result, the division is quickly rotated out of the battlefield and transferred back to England, where it receives reinforcement and further trainings.
Many rangers receive additional jumping trainings, with new equipment arriving the field. However, since the newly formed Special forces, like navy seals, green berets, or delta forces, the rangers is shifted to more "heavy duty work". After the disband of 1st SSF in late 1947, part of its personals are redistributed to the 6615 Ranger force.
The formation is a light elite infantry formation, meaning it will not receiving heavy equipment like M5 76mm, or even heavier 90mm or 105mm AT guns, or 155mm artillery. To strengthen its anti tank capability and firepower, Rangers receive many other new weapons, ranging from M2 carbine, M3 carbine, M14 rifles, to M20 super bazooka, M79 grenade launchers, recoilless rifles. Rangers are reinforced with amphibious tank, light tanks, and armoured cars. The artillery units are equipped with 75mm, 105mm howitzer, M8 HMC, new M37 HMC, and rocket artilleries. It also receive some tank destroyer, like the M18 hellcat, the M36 Jackson, even the light trucks armed with SSM-A-23 Dart ATGM.

The British 1st Airborne Division, established in 1941, was the British Army first official parachute division. The division participated in two airborne operations in 1941 and late fought as an infantry formation in Africa. It was dropped in Sicily in 1943 as part of the Operation Husky. Although the performance was mixed, the idea of large airborne operation was approved. The division did not take place in Operation Overlord, as it was serving as a reserve force.
In September 1944, the 1st Airborne Division was deployed for Operation Market Garden, tasked with seizing and holding the bridge at Arnhem. The division suffered devastating losses, with over 8000 casualties during the operation. In 1945, the remnants of the division were airdropped into Norway to oversee the surrender and disarmament of German forces stationed there.
The division is first deployed in Africa in 1943 to test its combat capability and airborne operation possibilities. The division suffers a lot from the hazard environment and wrong tactics. The British high command learns from these mistakes, and test the formation further in 1946 Operation Husky and later Italian mainland.
In 1948, the division is kept reserve and does not join Operation Overlord. And in September, the division is involved in one of the largest Airborne operation the world has ever seen, Operation Market Garden. The 1st AB collaborates with 6th AB, the SAS Brigade, 53rd Lowland, Polish 1st Airborne Brigade, US 82nd AB, and local Dutch resistance, successfully holds Arnhem long enough until the spearhead of 30 Corps arrives.
To strength its combat capabilities and firepower, the division is reinforced with many new equipment. From Sterling SMGs, EM2s, FN MAGs, to L1 90mm BAT Gun and A46 Airborne tanks. The division also captures some German equipment, even the infamous Tiger and King Tiger tanks, and uses them against their formal master.
