It sort of is a food source in game, in that its an ingredient for pastries which are food. Making honey a standalone food should be possible, but probably quite tricky. It might also end up being annoying, because honey is produced in relatively small quantities, and the game has no way to turn off consumption of a food item. So what would probably end up is all the honey being eaten straight away, and none being left for pastries or beer.
It's definitely an idea worth thinking about. I also like the broader idea of having more types of cooked food.
Grain + Honey is Braggot NOT Ale!
Grain + Herbs is Ale(Beer)
1 Firewood + 8 Water + 8 Grain + 2 Herbs = 8 Beer
I don't know what to do with such a lot of Herbs.
