Normalising weapon damage kills the Bolter Turret.
First play of RE2 and I created my first combat CV, nice mini ship with 2 laser turrets, 2 Gat Turrets, and 2 light cannons.

What to fight?, I know I'll take out some Bandits for Bolter turrets, I always considered them a nice upgrade and it gets me into combat. Plus its something you couldn't build, so felt like a nice step forward.

4 Bandits down, lured from a Bandit outpost, looted and returned to my home base.

Wow these Bolters now suck looking at the stats, They use less cpu, but also do less damage making them worse than the gat turrets.

Fighting the bandits always felt like a nice progression, and gave you something you couldn't make. But now it seems a little worthless.

Space is tight on my ship so I can't see why I'd use these Bolters now, the feeling of progression there has been lost.

The final nail in the coffin is they use over twice the power of Gat turrets. RIP Bolter you will be missed. :)

I think that's the point. They're the 'low budget' version. I used them on my carrier CV that only had turrets for drone defense anyways to save CPU for other areas, but I found they did the job too slowly and just went back to gatlings instead.

They just used to be a good stepping stone, now as you stated, they are worse than a basic gatling turret so they are pretty much useless. Best use is probably just as a decoy.

The missile ones may be of use as they at least give 200% damage against drones.

For progression I just ended up going straight to beating up a Periat. Took a lot of ammo but gave me some nice stuff in return. First solo Zirax ship I found, apart from an Imerat Destroyer and I'm not messing with that in my baby CV.
