Encrypted Data Chips?
I finally meandered my way out of the Wastelands where I started in a random start, and the first system in neutral space I went to has 5 Ancient Data Caches. I know these are the things you get Encrypted Data Chips from that, in RE1, you could turn in to UCH ships for Progenitor stuff which isn't (currently?) a part of RE2.

My question is, are there plans for these chips/the Progenitors in RE2, in which case I should collect these and hold on to them? Or will they remain useless?

They also give unlock points for the skill tree, some money, and can be converted into encrypted schematics and nav data. edit: once you have enough research points - 50 I think.
