Just wanted to share an idea I've got for a future update. Being able to construct a course on the fly would be great. Maybe using a scripted tool for laying down a main pathway and shortcuts, start/finish line, boost panels and a lap counter you'd be able to adjust via "Edit properties..." submenu.

The path laying could be done akin to Decent Vehicle, marking points along a desired road and adjusting the width to prevent counting a lap when it otherwise shouldn't. It could support forks in the road to serve as shortcuts or alternate routes, and support for dupes/saves might prove essential.

I'd imagine bot support wouldn't be a likely inclusion without an external addon like the one provided above, at least not for a while.
