hehe
Hey Flux Reev, just wanted to comment that I had a quick go just now of Cairo Station and Outskirts, first time since your big update, and to let you know that I died three times in the first few minutes, and I'm attributing all three deaths to you.
Firstly, I haven't played Halo properly in a good long while (no time lately), so playing this mod of yours again, so convinced was I that it was Halo 1, I died when I switched back to my still empty AR (backpack reloading doesn't work in Halo 2...). Arguably not your fault, but as I said, I was convinced it was Halo 1. :)
My second death came from being overjoyed at seeing some Blue Elites with the silly-but-lovely looking helmets from Halo 1 (so I wasn't firing at them - playing on Legendary, so took a lot of damage), and then seeing another with the regular helmet (in other words, variety). Seriously, this is an amazing addition, thank you, but definitely your fault I died.
The third death came from being even more overjoyed at seeing an Orange Grunt, with the Halo 1 mask that didn't make it past that game, but coloured-in, a la from the screenshots of the pre-release build. For the same reasons as death #2, this is again your fault.
Seriously, you've made something I already thought was amazing, feel even better. This is now, without any doubt, my favourite way to play Halo 2. It's the little details that matter with things like this, and as well as the Halo 1 Covenant variants (saw the Gold/Spec-Ops helmet Elites in the landing bays, as well, big spiky helmets!), I love the additional little details you've added as well, such as at the start of Outskirts - the table and chairs on top of the building with the glass roof and LMG, then later on with the now 'complete' overpass section from Uncut, the little information kiosks/screens from the E3 2003 demo).
Along with the additional inclusions such as the exploding phantoms and usable turrets, you've made something that really is a joy to play.
I admit, I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to the things I love, especially with Halo. I love all of Bungie's entries, but 1 and 2 are my favourite for many reasons, by a mile, and the music and art style are probably joint first on that list. This mod feels like a remaster of Halo 2, for someone who loves Halo 1, by someone who really 'gets' what made both games so great, so once again, thanks so much for doing this, Flux.
If I may, I only have two requests for consideration in future - one is a bit selfish, but I'll ask anyway.
One, if it at all possible, could you add in the 2003 demo melee combos for the BR? Whilst they may not fully work as intended or what have you, they were a delight to see whilst playing (I don't know why they were removed from Halo 2: Uncut...), and to me at least, felt really fun to perform.
Two (and this is the selfish one), but I see a lot of people requesting you to put the 3-shot retail version BR in (3 shot with the ammo counter).
If you do, could you possibly make it a variant, or keep it separate from the current version (2003 no screen single-shot) in the mod right now? Using that version with the Halo 1 AR is just a dream, and whilst I love the 3-shot version as well, it's the allure (and honestly, the 'sound') of the pre-retail version that puts a huge smile on my face whilst playing this.
Again, many thanks, and I can't wait until I can play through the whole thing again, now you've added so many things. All the best to you.
