Freezing on start up
The mod freezes and crashes when I start the game. I don't even get to the menu screen just the loading screen and it stops. I think it might be because I'm using the current version of the game which the mod says not to do but not sure if that's it. Or if that's it how to put it back on a previous version.

Please be specific, do you freeze, or do you crash ? These are 2 different things.

Freezing first time is normal, as per the workshop page TOR takes a while to load.

If you crash, there is another issue.

TOR does need gameversion 1.2.11 or 1.2.12, not the 1.3 beta or you'll crash.

It loads the empire character loading screen with the icon in the corner stops spinning completely. I waited for a few minutes and had to use window key to go back through steam to close the game out. When I start back it says it crashed and asks to enable safe mode. My version is 1.2.12.77991 not the beta.

Cant say, it depends per user, can be 3 mins, can be 60+.

There's also a workaround provided as per workshop page.

Yup that did it it took a while but I got it and it's going better after the build the shader.

You may still encounter some during the campaign itself, but once they are loaded and cached it works as normal
