Took me a while to figure out how to stop this, but let pawns put at least one shell into the toad's inventory, have an operator in the toad and get them to reload a shell into the turret, then once that's done you can dump the rest of the shells from the toad's inventory - that should stop pawns from hauling all of your shells. I also have the auto-reloading settings set to 0 - don't know if that makes a difference though.
