Macedon in Legendary is insane.
playing as a macedonian in legendary difficulty I realized that there are gaps impossible to overcome. It is not enough to have skill, you have to be a cheater, restart the campaign a good number of times because it is insane and I am a masochist. the fact is that you declare war at the beginning in such an absurd way that it is impossible to continue, even though you won battles the enemy does not surrender. I have 2 cities in Greece, Macedonia is dominated and 2 in Italy. In spite of the commercial resources that I possess and the good relations with other factions I do not reach any commercial agreement. probably something is not right for my faction and I like the difficulty but wow if it is very difficult something unreal.

the mod is amazing. the manner of recruiting troops and the diversity of troops by region make it more realistic.
I would like to see a little bigger shields in the basilikoy peltastai (royal peltasts)
and pike phalange in the punic army.

It was very difficult, you just need to start the game some ally. that is why you must attack the league and liberate them. now you have allies.

I like hardcore and epicness. Try this mod soon. Enemy attack lot of full stacks?

You said AI crashed you many times?

some factions represent an initial challenge much greater than others. an example of this is Macedon which is very hard. and in legendary difficulty because everyone declares war because the balance of power is not friendly with the player. the AI ​​plays quite well left elite units behind the light units or rubbish and whenever they attack they do so with advantage. even if they do not have all the slots filled with troops.

i use some sub mods DEI for this included softcore that reduces the IA aggro and other minimal things.

this is my carthage campaign without sofcore mod because carthage is more powerfull initiating. but now y have secession war and other enemies very strongest .

Did you tried hardcore submod?

I just want really hardcore campaign experience. When I play several campaigns since 2016 it was not hard for me. I also tried many submods which improve CAI including Radious, more agressive AI, very agressive AI, etc. But it was not hard as I want lol. I not mean submods which give penalty for public order for player.

When the mods don't deliver the difficulty, you can just roleplay regarding army composition, buildings and expansion. I did for example a total foreigner run with Carthage some time ago. All my stacks except for the general unit where always comprised of foreign troops, regionals and mercenaries. As most mercs are mediocre at best and most regionals just not good, you can probably imagine how those stacks fared against roman legions and phalanx formations. When I invaded Gaul with those stacks their elites just crushed the poor mercs into oblivion... It was the first time I actually got 2 full stacks completely wiped out at once since I've started playing Rome 2. And the sad part: the enemy had only half my numbers...

You can get very Nice units from Carthage. Dont use cheap units against elite units. Use phalanx and horses. Your best mercenaries build from mercenary barracks.

Ofc you can, but what is the point of my only foreigner run then? ;)

The mercenaries from the mercenary barracks actually use subjects and not foreigners. They are officially named "mercenaries" but are beeing handled the same way as auxilla as far as the game is concerned. So strictly speaking, they are also disqualified for this kind of run.

Ohh, nos i see. I recomend to you use loricati scutarii,
The majority of units that you can recruit are crap, that is why I recommend that you only use units of your armies and unless you require an emergency army to recruit local units. There are good units of this type in the foreign provinces but you should keep in mind that they do not have good morals and also that they are limited. some are quite worthwhile like the ones I mentioned.

In Hispania, Massilia, Taras , Hellas and Thrake i know you can find good units.
