I was 15 mins into misn 2 and received the order to rescue the turrets. Then literally 7 seconds later I get a fail message on the turrets and therefore the mission. I was already headed to them, and I managed to get close enough before the mission quit to see the turrets being attacked by multiple Maulers. I had no time to get to them to defend. Nor did I have an attack force to bring with me anyway, as resources had been spent on defenses around the Recycler b/c of the constant no break attacks from all directions. That part of the mission script needs some modification. Maybe wait for the player(s) to build a factory, and then a countdown timer (hidden ofc) so hopefully the player will have some units built before starting that segment, and still some more added time to get there. Also, I'm assuming the mission failed when just 1 of the turrets was destroyed. Maybe the player(s) should only have to save half of them. Even if there had been multiple players, there was simply no time to get to the location to do anything.
oh, also it would be helpful to rough up the terrain at the recy starting point so it can't be deployed there. The first time I played that mission, I had the recy deployed and was building a scav before I received escort order and nav beacon.
In regards to deploying the recycler in the beginning, I understand the need to deploy it right away because it is second nature, however in the audio that is played immediately when the mission starts it says "orange squad, standby for further orders...” orange squad meaning you.
I got through the escort red turrets to recy part. I still think it needs work, but most likely your changes helped. Good on that. Got through the escort red turrets to north nav part. Got to the Stasis truck and its escorts in the ocean part. Assigned a full Sabre squad to follow it as it moved toward land. I headed back to shore, and starting mortaring a nearby Mauler for s#!ts and giggles while waiting on the Stasis truck group. Everything seemed fine.
MISSION FAILED wait, what?
I got an objective window message in red about a scrubbed objective. Neither the Stasis truck nor the turrets appeared to have any nearby enemies in the minimap view before the mission closed out. The Recy was defended, so I don't think it was killed either.
I have no idea what objective caused the mission to fail.
Maybe the objective text needs to be more specific about what a player is to do.
AND more specific about why something failed. Audio messages are window dressing for immersion and can get missed. The important specifics need to be in the objective window.
A more specific fail message would be helpful to players. When I do get this campaign for single player, there will more subject matter that will be explained like debrief messages, pre-mission discussions etc.
1. Why would you go kill the enemy recycler when that is not the objective? I can add a condition if someone wants to wonder off from the objective.
2. The enemy recycler probably got destroyed because the other AI allies you have in their aip sent orders to kill it.
3. How is killing to gun spires on the hill in mission 5 a bug, did I understand you correctly?
Thanks for getting back to me.
1. Sometimes it is important to read/hear directions :P. Anyways like I said, I can add that condition.
2. If you would like to modify the stock aip for the computer not to follow that order, I would be happy to apply that to the last mission.
3. Thanks for the elaboration.
Don't forget, you can play this as single player instead of multiplayer as well ;)
Change has been made so when people kill enemy recyclers, it will execute a fail condition.
Also is it intentional that the Scion send about 6-8 Harvesters to my base in one go? Feels like a massive scrap gift. I'm guessing that's down to the stock AIP though but thought I would raise it for question.
I think there needs to be some specific messages to inform players on what is important to the mission itself as well. I played mission 2 for the first time and everything was going swimmingly until Cpt. Higgs died. It's fair that his death would result in a fail condition if he's key to your lore but it's not made clear or mentioned in the mission that he needs to stay alive. Lt. Miller is the only highlighted unit of Red Squad which gives off the impression that he's the one to be protected, not Cpt. Higgs.
1. Fixed the failed message on mission 3.
2. Yes, it is intentional. I wanted to have the enemy to be slightly ahead of the player and at times as you have seen deliver a good scrap gift.
3. Good idea, I have highlighted Cpt. Higgs.
