Fuel Rod Explosions
I am sure you know that all metals turn to gas at 8000 C - could you make the fuel rod explosions a bit more... tragic?

Amplify the reactor meltdown/explosion? Chernobyl??

This is true, all metals have boiled and evaporated past 8000 degrees celsius. I believe they increased the meltdown because you can harvest more heat from the more reactive fuel rods, but then the turbines would be more sensitive.
