Just wanted to bump this cause I'd like a fix as well. I know it's a minor issue but knowing the population of your whole empire was really cool and I'd like it back.

I seriously would love to see this fixed. It a minor detail, but it makes the game even more interesting

I did a bandaid fix by changing the error message in the lua script to say "0" instead.
