I would not refer to clans as "factions", though. You share same roots of origin and that's it. Actually, moreso than in mortal feaudal Europe, biggest threats often come from within the "family". Exceptions exist. But "These people are not your friends. We don't have friends".
By the way, Camilla is Ventrue too. So, watch out what you eat.
However, like in vanilla Crusader Kings, the best way to learn is by expereince. Even if you fail your first few games, you'll discover new mechanics and strategies and learn how to turn even rulers in unadventurous positions into great leaders.
Augustus is nice. I would consider him and Helena as second best picks. Augustus offers much more gentle and slow introduction to critical vassal management. And Helena is simply magnificent. All she needs is someone to win her wars for her and she will never have a shortage of those willing. Her scheme secrecy malus serves as important lesson in humility and working against your character's flaws.
Well, not the best place to discuss it, but that last of her problems is criminally misplaced. Of course there is a number of ways to overcome that little problem of hers. But she starts as long con with thousands years of experience. She should not feel as clumsy failure facing huge risks of being caught whenever she liberates a candy from a child. I would advocate for her house bonus modifier to be split between attraction and scheme secrecy bonus. I would assume part of the whole attraction deal is that people overlook or forgive suspicious behaviour.
