Troubleshooting POD 101

There is a lot of information you can provide to help with troubleshooting Princes of Darkness Mod if you have a problem like a crash to desktop or infinite loading screen.

  • What is your operating system? Windows? (what version?) Linux or MacOS?
  • How much RAM do you have? (POD requires additional memory than vanilla CK3.)
  • What does it say in the last few lines of your error log? It is probably located someplace like C:\Users\Your User Name\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III\logs\error.log
  • How large is your installation of POD? (it varies alot between releases, but it should be between 1GB and 2GB. Give us the exact size and we can check it with the build you have installed)
  • Where did you download POD from and which version? Steamworkshop? Github? ModDB? NexusMods? Mods at Paradox Plaza?
  • Is your POD version on the same version number as CK3?
  • Have you checked the integrity of your CK3 installation?
  • Are you using the latest version of POD and the latest version of CK3?
  • When you installed the latest version, did you wipe out the earlier version of POD or copy over it? Never copy over.
  • Are you using an old save on a new version of POD? That could cause problems, particularly because of how CK3 handles index numbers.
  • Are you playing in English or Chinese? Other languages may have submods with language support.
  • Are you running any other mods? Try running POD by itself.
  • Do you experience similar problems with other big mods such as Community Flavor Pack or any other large total conversion mod?

If for some reason, steam download isn't working, try downloading from mods at paradox plaz, moddb or nexus mods and doing a manual install.

The store page of this game lists 6GB RAM as minimum and 8GB as recommended RAM.
Imo these numbers are about as truthful as the average TINDER account. They are losely tied to reality but more than slightly embellished.
The 6-8 GB might work out for the original base game without mods, no additional contend, no programs running in the background, ideal room temperature, no dust, normal game speed or slower, minimum graphics settings, ideal drivers, no energy saving mode active, etc.
Some players might see these reality+ numbers and mistake them for actual reality.

The base game and PoD have become more complex and added tons of content, which is wonderful. As an unfortunate consequence, 8GB RAM probably won´t cut it anymore and neither might 16GB.
